What is your name and role within Cranial Contamination?
My name is Ellwood and I am the Guitarist
Where are you based?
We are mostly based in the Bristol area.
I hear that you now have a new drummer?
Yes, we are now playing live with a real drummer, as for the past year it has been a backing track. He (Striga) joined us a few months ago and practice is going really well. We will be playing live with Striga for the first time In January where we are doing a mini tour with 2 other bands.
How and where did you meet Striga?
We met Striga through the Bristol music scene. He is well known for being a talented drummer and used to play in Necrosis.
Where will you be touring and who with?
The tour will be with our good friends in Body Harvest and Human Mycosis. We will kik off the tour on January 12th in Wheatsheaf, Banbury the onto T-Chances, Tottenham on the 13th and finally The Portland Arms, Cambridge on the 14th.
Your new single “nesting with the dead” for the new EP “from the absence of existence” has just come out via Slam Worldwide, how has the response been?
So far the response has been really good and we can wait to unleash the rest of the 4 track EP. The whole EP should be finished very soon and will be out as soon as we can find a label to help distribute it.
Where and when did you record?
We do all our recording ourselves with the very talented John Hurst. As we all have real busy work lives we try to record when ever we can fit it in!
What influences your songwriting and how do you usually go about writing songs?
Some of the main influences for us are bands like Ingested, Disavowed, Inveracity, and Pathology. The writing usually consists of me getting a few riff ideas together and recorded on the laptop then we work on structure together and ideas on dynamics and trying to make the riffs more interesting. Soon after this new EP the writing will change as it will consist of more jam sessions with Striga.
Do you have many shows coming up for 2018?
Shows for 2018 are slowly filling up the calendar with the likes of Cardiff Slamdozer 2 and supporting Devangelic in Leeds to name a couple. We do have plans for Europe and just about every corner of the UK that we can go!
What else do you have planned for 2018?
After the new EP has been released we can start work on new music with Striga, so expect something new and VERY heavy. We are currently looking for a full time bass player, but we do have a session bass player for the tour and some upcoming shows.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
My current playlist consists of Organectomy`s new release “Domain of the wretched”, Too Many T`s “South City”, Cruelest “Mass atrocity of mankind” and Cerebral Incubation “Bifurcation Of Primordial Slamateurs”. There`s alot of Drum and bass and other dance music in there too!
How did Cranial Contamination form?
Cranial Contamination formed after the split of Rise Of An Empire. Me, Will and John came together and started writing music again which was never intended to be played live. But with the offer of support slots for bands like Omnipotent Hysteria, we couldent refuse!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
My personal favourite food is Shaanz Peri Peri takeaway….Im all over that chicken! Our top places to hang out would probably be any gig that we are all at together or the pub!
