What is your name and role within CDB?
Andrew De Silva. Singer, producer & performer.
Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I live in Melbourne Australia. The music scene is striving with diversity amongst new & upcoming artists & also a massive resurgence of bands from the 80’s & 90’s thriving in the live scene.
How did you first start playing music?
Music runs in my family. My Dad is a singer so he inspired me to sing.
In my teenage years I fell in love with song writing & production.
How did CDB form?
CDB are basically family. 2 brothers & a close family friend. They had been performing at local underage venues & nightclubs when our paths crossed.
I then joined the group in 1993 & we starting writing & performing our own material leading to our record deal with Sony Music.
What’s been happening recently?
Over the last few years we have been doing one-off special shows. Our first comeback show was with US group Salt-n- Pepa.
It was such a great success that we decided to reform & start doing more shows. We’re now planning a tour & writing new material. We released an album “Tailored For Now” In 2017 & a new single “Wobble” late last year.
You’re celebrating 25 years since the release of ‘Let’s Groove’ with a show at 170 Russel in Melbourne, what do you have in store for this show?
The crowd can expect to be on their feet for the entire show as we take everyone down RnB memory lane.
We’ll be playing songs from our early albums & also the mega-hits from the “Tailored For Now” album with songs by Bobby Brown, R.Kelly & Montell Jordan to name a few.
We love doing these shows because it also turns into a massive reunion of old friends sharing music that we all love.
What’s it like rehearing together after so many years?
It’s always a lot of fun! We always end up re-living old memories of being on the road. It’s also just great to dance again.. something none of us really do much of any more except when we’re on stage!
What prompted this show?
The fans! The constant questions of when are we doing a show again. We’re planning a tour around the country next year so can’t wait for that.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Prince – the new “Originals” album; Jordan Rakei; Living Color
What’s planned for the future of CDB?
Looking forward to taking the music out across the county – we are working on tour and album ideas for 2020!
What do you like to do away from music?
Family, Church, Gym, Remote Control Cars !
Favourite food and place to hangout?
My favourite food is Sri Lankan food which I usually enjoy when I visit my parents.
Favourite hangout is acoustic gig on Sunday arvo Mckinnon Hotel catching up with mates.
