Hannu Karjalainen to release his album ‘Drift’
Finish musician, producer and award-winning visual artist Hannu Karjalainen to release his fourth album (and second under his full name) on 16th of November. Touching on field recordings, soundscapes and esoteric instrumentation to build a truly meditative and moving record.
Like in his music, the composer has an experimental approach to the music videos he made for his new album. Indeed, four tracks will be accompanied by their visual arts, namely ‘The Nile’, ‘Untitled #34’, ‘That Obscure Object’ and ‘Carnivorous Flower’, the latter being released today.
For ‘Carnivorous Flower’, the video aims to explore hybrid possibilities between analogue and digital image processing. The original footage is shot on black and white 16mm film and hand developed, then processed further in the digital realm.
“For me the process of visual art is often like thinking in a visual form. The work is based on (sometimes endless) experiments, mistakes, erasures… The form is constantly changing, there is no one truth.” says Karjalainen who has already exhibited his visual work worldwide, including Scandinavia House (New York), UMMA (Ann Arbor), Fotogalleriet (Oslo) and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki). Along with his video work which has been exhibited in video screenings in PS1 (New York) and Centre Pompidou (Paris) among others.
