“[Yesterday’s Clothes] exemplifies Geneve’s ability to create moments as intimate as they are open-to-interpretation, with deep lyricism and relatable songwriting making it feel like you can find a home in Geneve’s music; perhaps a reason why she’s become such a star over the last two years or so.” – Pilerats

Perth artist Carla Geneve has today released her debut self-titled EP via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records.
To celebrate the release, Carla has shared an intimate and emotional video for ‘Yesterday’s Clothes’. Directed by Matt Sav, Carla says of the video – “I wanted the video to reflect the personal nature of the song. To me, sitting alone in front of a camera is a vulnerable situation, a lot like releasing a song to the world which describes private parts of my life. I also think that the simplicity of the video serves the live sound of the track”.
Carla explains the meaning behind the song – “Yesterday’s Clothes is about falling out of love with someone and feeling guilty about it. I wrote it at a time when I was burning the candle at both ends and had no energy left to try to deal with the end of a relationship. Most of the words came when I was doing a long drive back from some gig or another in regional WA. I’d been up all night and had to be somewhere the next day, so I hadn’t had a shower or changed clothes. When you’re on your own driving for hours and hours it’s hard to avoid thinking about stuff that you don’t want to, so I guess I wrote the song to try to come to terms with my thoughts and situation.”
‘Yesterday’s Clothes’ follows single ‘2001’, which debuted at #1 on the AMRAP charts, attained a triple j spot add and saw tastemaker Matt Wilkinson of Beats 1 come out as an early fan, praising her“incredibly powerful voice” on his radio show.
