After releasing their double A-side ‘Yin & Yang’, Sydney-based party starters Bootleg Rascal have just revealed the brooding new clip for the focus track ‘Get Over Myself’ – shot and directed by Dan Hodgson across various locations in Western QLD and Brisbane, and edited by Jared Hinz.
The plot is based on front man Carlos Lara and guitarist Jimmy Young being kidnapped by evil versions of themselves from another dimension. They’re captured, tied up and taken out to a remote location where it appears the boys may have met a rather grizzly end. By the video’s end, only one pair will make it out alive.
Young talks about the making of the clip:
“It was amazing being able to head out west and film a lot of this video. My family used to have big properties for farming out there back in the day and one of my ancestors is actually named on the World War 2 memorial in Charleville. It was really surreal being able to go out there and re-connect with my family history. In fact, we went to a lot of places we’d never been before to shoot this, including Charleville, Chinchilla and Flinders Peak to name a few. It was great to have an excuse to check these areas out that we might otherwise have never seen. I even got to fly a plane!”.
Since the release of ‘Get Over Myself’, the track has been strongly praised by the likes of tastemakers and major online outlets The Line of Best Fit (UK), Clash Magazine (UK), Wonderland Magazine (UK), Pilerats, Savage Thrills, The Interns, Music Feeds, The Music and Tone Deaf.
The song was also warmly received by the likes of triple j, community radio and Apple Music who added it to ‘Best of the Week’ in 8 regions, and Spotify via their ‘New Music Friday’ (AU/NZ), ‘All New Rock’, ‘Rock Out’, ‘Indie Arrivals’ and ‘New Indie & Alt.’ playlists.
To celebrate the release of ‘Yin & Yang’, the group will once again hit the road in Australia and New Zealand. The eight date tour will be held across August and September with performances in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Queenstown, Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and Tauranga. Joining them on all three Australian dates will be Sydney-based indie-rock crowd-favourite Timi Temple and Byron Bay-based indie-dance newcomer AKA Lui.
Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, an EP and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the stations esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.
The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.
