BONG MOUNTAIN

by the partae

How did you start?

Bong Mountain started long before a single note was played, before a single bowl was packed. Each of us had something inside of us that needed to get out. Some indescribable thing that gnaws at your insides, day and night and every time in-between. Tired of ignoring it, or trying to quiet it with drugs or alcohol, we did the only thing we know how to do. We got together in a basement and wrote songs that made us happy to play. At the very first band practice the best friends brigade was formed and nothing from that point on can stop us from hanging out and chasing that sweet sweet riff dragon.

Where are you based?

In a smokey cramped practice space high atop Bong Mountain (which is in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA(which is the birthplace of TV’s Andy Richter)).

Please give an example of your music writing process?

We meet up nearly every Wednesday around 4PM, we jam, write cool little riffs, and slowly piece stuff together until we have a song. It’s very informal.

What are you working on right now?

An idea for a disposable towel system for cleaning yourself on the road. An instagram account called “Toiltets_Of_Tour” which we use to rate the various facilities we use while out touring.  Putting together our first full length record.

What is your gear setup?

Alex and Adum play on the same side together, with Adum closer to the middle. Chris gets his own side of the stage. We try to keep the drummer on the back part of the stage and set up all amplifiers behind him. We use medium/heavy guitar picks and 5B drum sticks.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

Nothing really. We love playing music above everything else.

How would you describe your music genre?

Shower Pop. Pretty self explanatory.

Do you know any music theory?

Our theory is that if you hang out with your buds and have a great time listening to sweet tunes life gets a little better if only for a moment.

What are your plans for the future?

Universal basic income, flying cars, finishing up on writing and recording our full length and pressing that shit on some petrol-based 12 inch discs.

How did you get into music?

Every since the first time I heard music I’ve been a fan.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Mobina Galore is playing behind us on the stereo. Also the VAN JAMZ tape that ROCKETPUNCH put out.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Eddie Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen

Alex Angus

When are you playing next?

We are super stoked to be playing The Fest in Gainesville, Florida, USA. The Fest takes place every year at the end of Ocotber, this will be our second time playing there. We’ve all attended Fest many times in the past and seen a bunch bands we love play it so it’s a real honor to be included. Immediately after Fest we will be making our way to Australia by way of Hawaii! We are incredibly psyched about this trip! Joining us will be our old pal and tourmate The Eradicator. This will be our first time performing outside of North America, something we could have never dreamed of when we started. We are planning to be in Australia for about a week and half, dates and cities to come.
