Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
Hey guys, I’m currently based in Paris. The music scene is big over here we have many clubs & locations for any kind of sound (from deep house to techno)
We have really nice crews & Collectives, like Drome, Iceberg Intel, Unplug, Bloom, also big festivals now ( Marvellous Island, Weather Festival..).
The Scene is alive & involving over here !
How did you first start playing music?
I’ve always been a fan of music, when i was a child i remember that i was already scratching my mum’s vinyls collection from Motown Rec. & all.
So that was for me natural to get into art of Djing at the age of 18 or 19. I raised in Nantes (Britany-west of France) and we had so many parties at that time influenced by Crews from uk like « Spiral Tribe », so it was easy to play. My first gig was in a warehouse around the town.
Your first EP ‘Dada’ on Anja Schenieder’s label ‘Sous Music’ is coming out on the 25th of October 2019, what influenced the sound and song writing for this EP?
First of all i wish to tell you how proud & happy i am with that release, and very thankfull to Anja for her belief & support about my music.
On this Release the 3 trax have different influences.
« DADA » has been written after my gig at Womb (Tokyo) and this track is for sure influenced by japanes artist like « Drunken Kong » or « SUDO »
« Last Day In Space » has been written after i played in Berlin, this track is obviously influenced by what i heard at Tresor or Sysiphos.
With « SolSol » you can also see my inspiration from American techno style, with simple chord and minimalistic drums, I really enjoy stuff from Truncate, Victor Calderone, Avision, Damon Wild…
How did you go about writing the music for the EP?
Every track has been writing differently, for « DADA » i wanted a Club track with warm bass before all & groovy drums, For« Last Day In Space »i wanted to create a analogue sounding with a kind of Berliner cold wave touch with synth sounds. Concerning « SOLSOL » i wanted to combine the groove from drums and low bass with analogue type of chord.
How did you come to release on Sous Music?
Well i’ve been in Touch with Anja for a while, she uses to play a lot of my trax in her dj sets, so i wrote to her and we kept the connection. From then on she asked me for Trax on Sous Music 😉
Where and when did you record and produce and who with?
All trax have been produced at my place, i have a simple but unique home studio. I produce alone and i do the mixes by myself.
However i ‘ve asked to my friends some advices & pre masters are made at my friends Studio (Benjamin Joubert & Gael Brusseleers both are huge sound engineers)
What do you have planned for this EP?
I see This Ep as a test of a project of Lp, showing all my universe of creativity.
What programs/instruments do you use?
I produce on Fruity loops, i love the intuitive way of song writing, it’s easy & fast. I use my own samples (drums, perc, basses) & also samples from official packs (top loops, vocals). I use « Sylenth » synth (i love it) for bass lines & lead sounds, also« Massive » & « Absynth » (more for pads)
Then i bounce all stems in audio & i open it in « Protools » from Digidesign for doing the Mix. Protools give a better color to audio & stereo.
How did you learn to produce and what do find most challenging and rewarding through the production process?
I start learning production with friends, but i knew something was missing. So as i wanted to get professional in my music i’ve then studied music production at « SAE Institute » In Paris, i learnt a lot from that school. However the point is that you also learn by producing every day, working hard & asking advises with other producers ! This is very important.
I think that the most challenging is make sure you right in the challenge. Of course you start with an idea and sometimes you going to another way, the point is don’t be afraid to have explored all different ways offered by your imagination.
The most rewarding is when you see how it works on crowd !
How has the French electro music scene evolved since you first started taking notice and where do you see the French electro sound going?
French scene has uncredibly involved the last decade ! I mean what was french scene before? For most of people it was French touch type (House & deep disco), which was of course, but this was hidding the rest of the scene, we have also a underground culture for years here and nowadays French electro sound is going more into a basic & hypnotic techno like Dutch or Germen do.
Which French artists are you listening to at the moment?
I listen a lot of Zadig stuff, also Dj Deep, Agoria, Shlomo. Noaria also electro pop from Paradis. I mean french scene is so various !!!
Which clubs do you really like at the moment and why?
My favorite clubs are Sisyphos , Panorama Bar, Tresor In Berlin, i love the spirit of free to party like you want clubs there are a unique experience, and the music is mad !!
Womb, Ageha Tokyo, i’ve played there already and both are crazy, huge sound system and crazy people….
Paradiso Noord / Tolhuistuin (Amsterdam)
A small club but a huge atmosphere & a mad sound system, i experienced playing there for my man Minitech Project label Party i had a blast
Dehors Brut (Paris) : the Ex Concrete doesn’t look like a club , more like a open air party, the vibe is cool
What do you like to do away from music?
Going to Sport (Martial Arts) and hanging out with my lovely family, watching a lot of history Documentaries, andwalking in the street of Paris we have many cultural exhibition in town !
What’s planned for the remainder of 2019 going into 2020?
End of 2019 is going to be great for me , with my release on SOUS MUSIC, i also have nice gigs coming up, and 2020 will be a big year i have many project in production and i feel my music rising up..
