Her effervescent charm has skyrocketed her onto the radars of many throughout Australia’s comedy community and with her second solo show ready to tour, Darwin’s Amy Hetherington is raring to take 2019 by the horns. Her new show, Where They Hide The Crazy, is the latest batch of classic Amy Hetherington material that is bound to have audiences in stitches, and is soon coming to venues right around the country as we enter the comedy festival season for 2019.
Where They Hide The Crazy is a combination of uniquely Territorian traits and experiences in with Hetherington’s undeniable comedic wit and humour. The RAW Comedy Finalist is firing from all cylinders with her new show, coming hot off the back of sold out runs in Darwin and acclaimed shows at the Darwin Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Perth’s Fringe World and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Hetherington’s rise over the last two years has not only seen the comedian become one of the most in demand names in the NT, but she has also been winning large crowds supporting the likes of Fiona O’Loughlin, Glenn Robbins, Jimoen, Greg Fleet and Steve-O (MTV’s Jackass).
Getting into comedy in 2012, what started as a gimmick has now turned into a career with a fiery spark behind it. Hetherington’s all-encompassing positivity has become a drawcard of her live sets; the megawatt grin that accompanies each joke – no matter how edgy – is infectious and ensures the crowd is left wanting more. Her 2017 show Terminally Positive proved to put Hetherington further on the map as one of Australia’s funniest up and coming names. Where They Hide The Crazy is the natural extension and progression of her journey. “It feels like an absolute privilege to have people sit and listen to my stories and it’s one of the most exciting things to make people laugh. I love how every show is different and audiences react to different things depending on the delivery or the vibe or their senses of humour. It means seeing live comedy is always a unique comedy experience and I really think that’s something people are looking for these days.” Amy Hetherington
Where They Hide The Crazy examines the almost mythological stories that trickle down through to the southern states from The Top End. Where the NT News has become infamous for its front pages, Hetherington dives deeper in uncovering this beautiful craziness, produced with explicit flair. “There’s this joke that people move to the NT to escape things they’ve done in the past…but I’m beginning to realise it’s not just a saying. Some of the weirdest things happen in Darwin and to survive, you’ve just got to laugh. This show talks about that craziness and how we, as human beings, try to hide our craziness instead of embracing it.” Amy Hetherington
With the Northern Territory’s current Boundless Possible campaign geared up to entice potential new residents to the tropics, consider Where They Hide The Crazy as the premiere unofficial recruitment session you’ll need if ever you’ve considered your own move north!
