ALANA WILKINSON to put a smile on a face with single ‘Closer’

Well here is a little ray of sunshine to brighten up your Thursday morning. A fresh single named ‘Closer’ from Melbourne singer-songwriter Alana Wilkinson, a name spread across the media the past couple of months having been added to the Queenscliff Music Festival and Woodford Folk Festival line up for the upcoming summer season. Described by family and friends as a smiling assassin, this part folk, part pop tune is as sunny as the woman behind it.

Wilkinson captures the giddy feeling in ‘Closer’ navigating the grey area of falling in love. This space that Alana describes, “It’s equal part terrifying and exhilarating and for me ‘Closer’ is about the sunshiny pockets of just enjoying those moments as they come.” Reflected wholly in the video, Wilkinson dances through the city of Melbourne reflecting the feeling one gets falling in love. An evocative art probing the listener to a happy place and a smile on their face.

A fragile yet fulsome narrative matches the poppier side to an folk groove. Wilkinson’s voice is like a hypnotic rainbow, twinkling alongside a textural production by Hayden Calnin. With a melody that impressively drifts up and down the scale, it’s no wonder feedback from Industry leaders place Wilkinson heading in the same box as Australian success stories of Courtney Barnett, Kate Miller Heidke andEmma Louise.

With an EP on the way for 2019, ‘Closer’ is just the beginning of a huge journey for the Melbourne songstress. Wilkinson takes her show on the road this summer with just a guitar, uke and the caustic wit and theatrical delivery that serves her so well.
