UNIFY Gathering is set to return to Tarwin Lower from January 21 – 24 2021 with an all-Australian lineup. Read the festival statement below: It’s no secret that the music industry is one of the hardest hit industries by the current situation, and our hearts go out to the artists, crew, agents and managers that have lost their entire touring plans with no certainty of when it is coming back. This festival launched in 2015 with entirely Australian artists, and we’ve had the pleasure of having pretty much every heavy artist in the country perform across our six events. Now we want to invite all of them back for a celebration of this community and everything it provides. We hope to get back as many artists as we can. We’ll be pushing dates back a week to make the January 21 - 24 weekend in 2021. In all of this chaos, one message stands as true as ever: music saves lives. It’s the inspiration in our lives and it’s the basis of communities that can band together to survive through tough times. We wanted this announcement out now to declare our intentions, and give the people in our community something to look forward to.  While UNIFY prides itself on connecting with the global heavy music community, it was with the local community of artists, crew, agents and managers that we launched our festival in 2015. In that first year, it felt like most of the Australian heavy music community got together to create one of the most memorable weekends of our lives. At the time, Australian heavy music artists were mostly unable to play festivals in AUS. We launched UNIFY because we wanted to see what it would be like for The Amity Affliction, Northlane and In Hearts Wake to play 40 minute sets at night at a festival. Looking at that lineup, it included many of the bands that defined the next half decade of Australian music, and that poster has become an iconic moment in the history of this community.  We are also aware that Australian artists are right now doing their best to reschedule current dates and look for opportunities that can work once life resumes. As such, UNIFY will also have no restriction on artists wanting to do tour dates surrounding our dates. We also won’t worry about putting through artists that played last year or the year before. It’s not about exclusivity for us, it’s about community.  We will be back with more details soon, but for now please join the event page to stay up to date as we roll out. 

UNIFY GATHERING ANNOUNCE ALL-AUSTRALIAN EDITION FOR 2021 + REVEAL FESTIVAL DATES LINEUP TO BE ANNOUNCED

After two years of long work, even working across winter to finish the tune, Just A Gent & Xavi release their melodic masterpiece - ‘Miso & Memories’ this Friday March 20. The song is produced by both Just A Gent and Xavi, with vocals by the extremely talented Akira Flay released independently. ‘Miso & Memories’ is an emotional track blending the best elements of pop and dance music creating an earworm you won’t soon forget. The catchy vocals paired with the bouncy feel of the production could sit across a nightclub dancefloor or commercial radio station. The track’s strong swing influence, along with the laid-back future bass style of the drop, keeps the listener wanting more. ‘Miso & Memories’ is also a sonic tale that brings about a sense of not only love, but also loss. This track expresses a feeling about the fabled “one that got away” and getting over them. Just A Gent is a young pioneer for the future bass music scene, teaching himself to produce at a young age accumulating millions of streams before he was legally allowed into a nightclub. In 2019 he released his third EP ‘URCA’ through Monstercat which was well received by media and fans alike, with Just A Gent going on to perform at FOMO, Groovin the Moo and Falls Festival over the year. With over 75 Million plays on Spotify alone, Just A Gent continues to grow with each release reaching new heights. Xavi is a St. Louis based melodic bass music producer, who has seen support from artists like Porter Robinson, San Holo, Luca Lush, and many more. His most recent releases include an official remix of “Kids” by Lione, released on Tiesto’s record label Musical Freedom, and a single on Electric Hawks recent compilation Rebirth, titled “She’s Beyond Us.” Akira Flay is a Santa Barbara, California based songwriter and producer blending hip-hop and electronic music with a varied somber or bombastic vocal delivery. Last month he released an EP titled “Hello, Goodbye.”

Gordi along with the team behind the popular weekend streaming festival Isol-Aid are proud to unveil a special international lunchtime edition of Isol-Aid: Lunch Without Borders. Taking place over 2 hours from 11.30am Australian eastern time this Wednesday, Lunch Without Borders will see 5 artists from around the globe play a short Instagram Live concert for their Australian fans via Isol-Aid’s growing platform. They’ll be joined by 3 local Australian artists throughout the event. Isol-Aid launched 3 weeks ago and has run a live streaming festival over consecutive weekends and has been warmly embraced by the Australian music community. As borders start to close and touring in Australia an impossibility for international artists, Canowindra musician Sophie Payten (aka Gordi) wanted to connect her musician friends abroad with their Australian fans, while expanding the reach of Australian music industry charity Support Act. The curated event will see each artist play 15 minute back to back sets on their own Instagram Live stories, with traffic directed from Isol-Aid’s site and social accounts. The lunchtime concert will feature Tennessee singer and boygenius member Julien Baker. Her first two albums Sprained Ankle and Turn Out The Lights were met with critical acclaim and saw her perform numerous times on US late night TV, collaborate with an impressive list of artists and toured Australia most recently in 2018. Of Monsters And Men’s frontwoman Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir joins the Australian lunchtime event from her wintry home studio late at night in Iceland. With several number one albums in many countries, they recently celebrated the eighth anniversary of their debut album My Head Is An Animal. OMAM were recently out in Australia for Falls Festival over the new year period. Further inland from Nanna’s home in Reykjavik, Iceland is electro-folk falsetto star Asgeir.  Originally due to return to Australia next month, the popular singer released his third album Bury The Moon earlier this year. One in 10 people in Iceland own a copy of his debut album In The Silence. British indie electronic producer-singer Shura comes to us from her newly adopted home in Brooklyn.  Recently fleeing the UK as President Trump threatened to close borders, she made it back to the US just hours before the British travel ban was imposed. Her second album Forevher features the slinky synth pop single “religion”. Staying in New York, Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell make up synth pop duo Overcoats. Recently joining the Loma Vista roster, their recent track “The Fool” showcases the band’s emotionally-led harmonies and passionate delivery, which will no doubt be highlighted in raw acoustic duo format. Joining the overseas visitors for lunch are locals - our host Gordi whose second album Our Two Skins is out in June, as well as Melbourne experimental bedroom pop purveyor Katie Dey in solo piano mode and triple j Unearthed star George Alice who has caught global attention with her streaming hit “Circles”. The live stream will kick off from 11:30am this Wednesday (Aus EST), with each artist playing a 15 minute live set via Instagram Live.  It will be moderated by the Isol-Aid Instagram page where viewers can be directed to the individual artist accounts for each set. LONDON, April 3, 2020 – After gaining great support for the track with New York rappers STVSH and Jay Critch, open-format DJ Cruz felt like the track had more to it. He hit up ANGELZ, who in his turn, transformed the track into a real tech house banger. DJ Cruz had already gained support from artists as Tiësto, Avicii and DJ Snake for his tracks in the past. LA-Based DJ and Producer ANGELZ got on board and put his touch to ‘Get A Bag’, creating a tech house version. The track starts off with a high-tempo tech house-beat and soon after introduces the chorus with its distinguishable melody into the mix. Even though the track finds it roots in the rather raw New York hip-hop, ANGELZ was able to balance the sounds and turn it into a tech-house track, without sacrificing the tracks melody and vocals. With ‘Get A Bag’, DJ Cruz made his mark on the NYC hip-hop scene, still having close ties to electronic music, the remix felt natural to Cruz. Besides the remix by ANGELZ, DJ Cruz also released a remix by Austin Marc, which leans more towards trap. One thing is for certain and confirmed by DJ Cruz himself, we’ll be hearing a lot more from him in 2020. After spending much of 2019  on the road with their EP Good Time, Hideous Sun Demon are back for a new decade with what is perhaps their most direct piece of music yet - the cranking ‘Gimmicks’. Sitting somewhere between Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Gang of Four and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, the newest from Hideous Sun Demon will sit well with longtime fans, while introducing a new and tight sound to the public as a whole.   Admitting that they were growing bored with the sounds that had formed the foundations of their early material, Hideous Sun Demon went back to the drawing board when conceptualising this new phase of the band and what they wanted it to sound like. Working with Casey Hartnett (King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard), Jeremy Giddings (Hot House Studios) and Joe Carra (Crystal Mastering), ‘Gimmicks’ came together as a reimagination of the music the trio loves, the essence of their dynamic as performers. “We had kinda gotten into this formulaic approach to songwriting that was defined by fuzzy guitars and doomy riffs. We were eager to adopt a wider breadth of influences, especially since Jake and Vin bonded over their love of post-punk and New Wave in their youth. We’ve started playing with cleaner guitars, writing songs that have a higher focus on tight playing rather than balls to the wall noise, as well as broadening what our sound can be. That’s essentially what Gimmicks is.” Hideous Sun Demon   Throughout last year, Hideous Sun Demon were honing their craft on stages throughout Europe, with the Good Time EP bringing them to the radars of many. Following on from 2018’s FAME, EROTIC, DREAM album (the band’s third), their 2019 material showcased a band that was further exploring their sonic identity. Heading into 2020, Hideous Sun Demon are flexing their songwriting and live muscles more than ever.

Banger alert! The inimitable duo Mr. Belt & Wezol are back on Heldeep Records for the first time since 2018’s ‘Harmony’ and they’ve cooked up another absolute monster. Quite literally!   Taking its inspiration and lyrics from Lewis Caroll’s fantastical 1871 gibberish poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ — which is about a mythical beast — ‘The Jabberwock’ is a pounding high-energy house cut with inspiration from the bass music landscape. Glimmering harp trills shimmer over the distorted kicks and sharp hats in the intro before a dramatic, dark piano refrain brings us into the breakdown.  A dramatic female voice delivers lines from the poem before the drop hits with a warped synth hook and gnarly, bouncing bass to form the crux of the tracks. Little else is needed to make this track bang, with some haunting keys and eerie pad sounds creating a spooked atmosphere as we enter the next break.  Mr. Belt & Wezol are famed for their top disco-flavoured tracks like ‘Finally’, ‘Boogie Wonderland’ and ‘Let’s All Chant’, but this new single is one of their toughest yet.
