Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines set to open in Melbourne 1 December 2019 to 13 April 2020 | NGV International | Admission fees apply In an unprecedented, world premiere exhibition, the National Gallery of Victoria is presenting the work of two of the most significant and influential artists of the late twentieth century in Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines. Exclusive to Melbourne, the exhibition offers new and fascinating insights into their unique visual languages and reveals, for the first time, the many intersections between their lives, practices and ideas. Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV, said: ‘With diverse works on loan from public and private collections world-wide, the Crossing Lines exhibition offers an outstanding platform to explore the formidable works of two of the finest artists to emerge from New York City in the 1980s. The works of Haring and Basquiat remain so impactful as they demonstrate a complete mastering of how to use visual language and communicate bold statements on politics, race and social justice.” Dr. Dieter Buchhart, respected art historian and guest curator of Crossing Lines, said: “Haring and Basquiat are among the most influential artists of not only the 1980s but more broadly, of our time and relevant to global youth culture.” “While Basquiat anticipated today’s ‘always-on’ culture of communication and contemporary knowledge spaces, Haring foreshadowed emojis with his image-word alphabet,” continued Buchhart. “This universal system of communication remains a positive, humanistic meme in the collective struggle against ignorance, fear and silence.” A selection of public programs designed to offer fresh perspectives on the work of Haring and Basquiat is also being presented, including the NGV Gala on 30 November, marking the opening night of the exhibition. About the exhibition Keith Haring (American 1958–90) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (American 1960–88) changed the art world of the 1980s through their idiosyncratic imagery, radical ideas and complex socio-political commentary, creating an indelible legacy that continues to influence contemporary visual art and popular culture today. Each artist is acclaimed for his distinctive visual language, employing signs, symbols and words to convey strong social and political messages in unconventional ways. Crossing Lines surveys each artist’s tragically short, yet prolific career through more than 200 artworks, including works created in public spaces, painting, sculpture, objects, works on paper, photographs and more, providing local and international audiences with a comprehensive insight into these influential artists’ careers. Beginning with examples of Haring and Basquiat’s work from the streets and subway stations of New York City, the exhibition presents early collaborations and highlights from each artist’s breakthrough exhibitions alongside many of their most acclaimed artworks, including paintings featuring Basquiat’s crown and head motifs, and Haring’s iconic ‘radiant baby’ and dancing figures. Examining symbols, iconography and their incomparable styles, the exhibition also examines the creative circles they moved in alongside icons such as Andy Warhol, Madonna and Grace Jones. Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines has been curated for the NGV by Dr Dieter Buchhart, art historian and curator of recent monographic exhibitions on both Jean-Michel Basquiat (Fondation Louis Vuitton, Barbican Art Gallery) and Keith Haring (Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris). An accompanying publication features an essay by Dr Dieter Buchhart, as well as additional contributions by the exhibition’s Special Advisor Larry Warsh, author and academic Ricardo Montez, NGV curator Myles Russell-Cook and journalist Linda Yablonsky. Along with a republication of Rene Ricard’s seminal 1981 text on Haring and Basquiat, this richly illustrated book also features interviews with North American contributors: artists Jenny Holzer and George Condo, curator Diego Cortez, and performer Patti Astor. Water Wall tribute Celebrating 35 years since Haring painted a temporary mural on the NGV Water Wall – and coinciding with the exhibition – the NGV has reimagined the artist’s untitled 1984 mural with a striking vinyl graphic displayed at the site of the original artwork. Based on Haring’s original design, the vinyl graphic pays tribute to a significant moment in Melbourne’s cultural history, when Haring was invited to paint a temporary mural on the iconic city landmark. NGV Friday Nights Celebrating the exhibition across summer, NGV Friday Nights also returns to the NGV to pay homage to the 80s and Downtown New York City. Every week DJs spotlight a music moment of the era, including disco, post-punk, hip hop, synth and new wave, as the NGV hosts international acts including New York City’s Ge-Ology and Natasha Diggs; the UK’s Alex Rita & Errol and Ruby Savage; Detroit’s Nicole Misha; and Melbourne’s YO! MAFIA and Banoffee (DJ Set). Kids Summer Festival Taking inspiration from the work of Haring and Basquiat is the NGV’s Kids Summer Festival, held from 11-19 January. The festival features free activities for children including a chalk drawing installation, kids dance party, and hip-hop workshops. Influenced by Haring, Melbourne street artist David Booth - working under the pseudonym Ghostpatrol - will present an interactive chalkboard installation inviting contributions from kids, designed in dialogue with the NGV’s Great Hall ceiling. The world-exclusive presentation of Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines will be on display from 1 December 2019 – 13 April 2020 at NGV International, 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, Australia. Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?  Brisbane, hip hop there has been going strong for some time now. How did you first start playing music/rapping?  I first tried rap in high school, but started recording more seriously when I went to my cousin's studio in Vietnam. What's been happening recently?  I've spent the last year putting up a number of political hip hop videos online. The political landscape quite quickly so it requires a lot of effort to keep up. Your new single/video 'Save Our Seas' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?   Mark and I did a previous political track "March is Long", and we worked well together using gritty East Coast inspired production. I wanted to create something with a similar vibe but focusing on a contemporary topic.   How did you go about writing Save Our Seas?  I wrote what I knew about Vietnam and its maritime issues, and I spoke with others in the Vietnamese community about it. I recruited Mark, who wrote a verse that starts off with some of my phrases, but then he branches off to tell his own story as an artist from the Philippines, showing that there are both differences and parallels between our experiences. Mark has a great voice and speaks with authority. I heard about Mei's singing via a friend from med school, and her vocal harmonies worked perfectly on the chorus. She is quite the talent, and can sing in multiple languages. Where and when did you record/produce?  I recorded myself and Mark at my home studio, and Mei was recorded by Gareth David at Linear Records. Who did you work with during the recording/production process?   The instrumental is from Petrofsky, a versatile producer from Ukraine. Mastering was from Matthew Gray. How did the concept for the video come about?  I wanted a maritime setting and to use flares to create a sense of urgency - we want the world to pay attention, to help "Save Our Seas". Where and when did you film and who did you work with?  We filmed it along the Brisbane River. Our videographer was Dolan Funk, who shot some beautiful drone footage. Chris Harding helped with editing.  Who are you listening to at the moment?  Lucas Joyner, Kendrick Lamar, Strange Music, Triple One, G Yamazawa, to name a few.  What do you like to do away from music?  I enjoy travelling, spending time with my dog and friends and going to cultural festivals. What's planned for the remainder of 2019 going into 2020?  I'm going to release another political track this year, and hope to have enough material for an LP next year. Favourite food and place to hangout?  Love phở. Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

Brisbane, hip hop there has been going strong for some time now.

How did you first start playing music/rapping?

I first tried rap in high school, but started recording more seriously when I went to my cousin’s studio in Vietnam.

What’s been happening recently?

I’ve spent the last year putting up a number of political hip hop videos online. The political landscape quite quickly so it requires a lot of effort to keep up.

Your new single/video ‘Save Our Seas’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?

Mark and I did a previous political track “March is Long”, and we worked well together using gritty East Coast inspired production.

How did the concept for the video come about?

I wanted a maritime setting and to use flares to create a sense of urgency – we want the world to pay attention, to help “Save Our Seas”.

Where and when did you film and who did you work with?

We filmed it along the Brisbane River. Our videographer was Dolan Funk, who shot some beautiful drone footage. Chris Harding helped with editing.

Lucas Joyner, Kendrick Lamar, Strange Music, Triple One, G Yamazawa, to name a few.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Love phở. South Bank is great as it changes often.

What is your name and role within Dream Cities? Mike Solo - Drums What have you been working on recently? We just put out the new video for 'Angel's Call' but over the past 12 months we've been busy writing our second album and filming live videos for all the tracks from 'Everybody's Nobody'. There's loads of stuff to be released in the near future, which is exciting for us. You’re new single 'Angels Call' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track? Alex (bass, electronics) and Andrej (guitar) came up with the main atmospheric introduction and the arpeggiated guitar riff a few years ago when we were still an instrumental band. It quickly became a favourite of ours to jam on, so when Ello joined the band as MC, we were really interested to hear his take on the vocals and lyrics. I think the music suits the theme of darkness and redemption in the vocals, with an air of hopefulness around it. Musically, there's a lot of world music influence in the samples we've used across many songs, but the rhythm and chords and chorus are probably everything from Phil Collins 'In The Air Tonight' to P.O.D.'s 'Alive.' That wasn't intentional, it just came out that way! Your new album is out now where and when did you record? We recorded 'Everybody's Nobody' at Megaphon Studios in Sydney, with Alex Wilson (sleepmakeswaves) engineering and mixing for us. We did a few guitar and bass overdubs at home or at his studio, whilst Ello did almost all his vocals himself at his place. It was cool going into a big studio to track and we had fun, but it took a long time for us to get all the details right due to the number of layers we kept adding to the songs. We might try to simplify next time haha. Who did you work with during the recording and production process? We self produced demos of everything ourselves initially, then asked Alex Wilson to help us record and mix the album. He had just enough time in between massive touring stints with sleepmakeswaves to fit in a couple days of recording, which was great. What programs/instruments did you use? Pretty standard instrumentation for the band - vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keyboard - but mainly Ableton for the electronics and Reaper for the mixing process. How did you go about writing the music? Alex & Andrej spent years coming up with riffs and melding them with world music samples they found by trawling the internet, whilst I would then come in and help arrange them or write additional melodies using my voice or a keyboard to add layers. This was during a period of 3-4 years when we were basically a part-time hobby instrumental band, so we felt free to continually thicken up the melodic content of songs with additional layers, trumpet samples, keyboard & synth lines, vocal samples etc. We jammed on these in the studio, played some gigs, listened back and refined things over time to be less 10-minute explorations and more punchy live tracks that people could groove to. Eventually when Ello joined as MC, we re-arranged most tracks to make space for him. But in some cases, he freestyled directly on top of what we already had and it actually worked out great - so we kept the best of both worlds! What did you find most challenging and rewarding during the recording/production process? The most challenging thing was the mix process, realising we had to invest a lot more time into getting it right due to the sheer number of layers we had created. Everyone wanted these elements we were used to hearing to be audible in the mix, so it took a lot longer than expected. It was a challenge for Alex in mixing all this too as we kept wanting revisions. Eventually we were able to finalise everything within a few days sitting on his couch listening back. The most rewarding thing was having it all done. None of us had ever finished an album before so it felt good to complete it and share it with people. Where can we buy/download the album? Feel free to stream or watch on Spotify/YouTube or you can support us directly at dreamcities.bandcamp.com Who are you listening to at the moment? Haha it's a bit unusual at the moment - I'm listening to unreleased mixes of music by sleepmakeswaves & Furnace and the Fundamentals (probably due out late 2019/early 2020). I've also been listening to some of my old favourite cartoon theme songs like Duck Tales and Denver the Last Dinosaur. Most days I'm listening to The Wiggles whilst my baby plays around on his playmat. Otherwise I've actually been listening to a lot of sports podcasts - The Lowe Post & JJ Reddick podcast (basketball), The Tennis podcast. What do you like to do away from music? Family time with the new baby (he's 9 months) is great Otherwise I enjoy exercising and playing tennis or table tennis (when there's time and someone to play with!) What’s planned for the remainder of 2019 going into2020? We're launching the new single/video at The Chippendale Hotel in Sydney on Thursday 21 November There'll be releases for the live videos we recorded pretty soon and then hopefully we can bunker down to finish writing the next album and have it out sometime in 2020 with more shows Favourite food and place to hangout? After a much talked about debut in 2019, London’s tasteful Cross The Tracks Festival is back and better than ever in 2020 with an all encompassing day of the finest jazz, funk and soul as well as delicious street food, carefully brewed craft beer, thought provoking talks, immersive workshops and plenty more on Sunday June 7th at Brixton’s beautiful Brockwell Park. The first names to be announced include Sister Sledge, Tinariwen, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay MBE, Nu Guinea (Full Live Band), Channel One, Shabaka & The Ancestors, Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, Shy One, Tash LC, Jaz Karis, Pip Millet, Ashley Henry, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Chris Dave & The Drumhedz, Theon Cross, Jamz Supernova, Lynda Dawn, and Aaron Taylor.

This immaculately presented one-day event is a mixture of legendary big names and the hottest talents from the next generation as well as 40 of London’s most talked about street food traders, alongside the city’s finest craft beer brewers. It is a place for all ages to eat, drink and dance until your heart’s content. For those who need some midsummer r&r, you can look forward to a fulsome wellness area as well as creative markets, a record and art fair, panels, workshops and talks that address various cultural issues with experts in their field.

Brockwell Park is a rolling green space with ornamental ponds, formal flower beds and a wall garden, lakes and plenty of sloping grounds to explore and relax in. For Cross The Tracks it comes alive with bespoke bars, food concessions, luxury toilets for VIP access, chill out areas and all sorts of creative and cultural offerings to stimulate the mind, body and soul.

After a show stopping performance from Chaka Khan last year, 2020’s soundtrack is another exceptional one with carefully curated acts from the vanguard, including a main stage take over curated by  esteemed BBC 6 Music host and WorldwideFM founder Gilles Peterson. First up are legendary soul and disco group Sister Sledge, including original lead singer Kathy Sledge, known for the likes of ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, ‘Lost In Music’, ‘Thinking Of You’ and the Grammy Hall of Fame inducted ‘We Are Family’. Saharan Desert sounds come in the form of the formidable Tinariwen, while London Jazz champ Shabaka Hutchins returns to Cross The Tracks, this time with his project Shabaka & The Ancestors.

Elsewhere is legendary soul, funk and dub connoisseur Norman Jay MBE who joins the dots between the ages with his love-fuelled selections, while Cross The Tracks are excited to introduce Jaz Karis, Pip Millet, Lynda Dawn and Aaron Taylor, bringing London’s future sounds of soul and R&B. There will be dub madness from Channel One, live sounds from Theon Cross, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Nu Guinea, a performance from Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, plus more well informed sounds from across the musical spectrum from Shy One, Tash LC, and Jamz Supernova as well as genre-blurring UK pianist Ashley Henry, who has been garnering widespread acclaim for his recently released Beautiful Vinyl Hunter album on Sony.

This is a real celebration of lovingly crafted food and ale, with a contemporary soundtrack of feel good sounds and all in a blissful British setting, so is the one and only summer festival you need in your life come 2020.

Tickets & info via astralpeople.com Astral People are proud to announce the return of German-based DJ/Producer Objekt, coming back to our shores for a string of club shows and special set at Pitch this coming March.  Born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, TJ Hertz grew up in Belgium and the UK before settling in Berlin in 2009, where he released his first record, the white-label Objekt #1, in 2011. Across his subsequent club output (on labels such as Hessle Audio, Leisure System, Power Vacuum and his own imprint) audacious sound design and meticulous arrangements have served to buckle and twist dancefloor conventions across a range of genres. Hertz applies similar rigour and imagination to his LPs, which conjure engrossing soundworlds rich with conceptual possibility. His debut album, 2014’s ‘Flatland’ on PAN, consolidated his influences – IDM, electro, techno, industrial and ambient, among others – into a sonically adventurous narrative imagining “a world in which any scene can be seen from every angle at once”. His 2018 follow-up, the introspective ‘Cocoon Crush’ LP, deploys a more organic sound palette of foley recordings and ASMR-inspired textures in service of more personal themes. Objekt has built a reputation as one of the must-see DJs of his generation. Though techno is still his centre of gravity, his club sets trace ever-wider orbits, typically encompassing electro, house, acid, bass music, DnB, dub and unclassifiable club music across a broad tempo spectrum. These virtuoso voyages are made possible by a deft, highly technical mixing style, along with a technician’s mindset honed through his years working as an instrument developer at music software company Native Instruments. Heralded as Mixmag’s DJ of the year in 2018, Objekt is not one to be missed. Mistletone and Milk! Records are thrilled to announce the debut Australian tour for Meg Duffy aka Hand Habits. Alongside appearances at Farmer & The Owl Festival, Nine Lives Festival and Brunswick Music Festival, Hand Habits will also play intimate shows in Brisbane and Castlemaine as well as a special performance supporting Aldous Harding in Sydney. Hand Habits grew up in a small town in upstate New York and they cut their teeth as a session guitarist and touring member of Kevin Morby’s band. The Hand Habits project emerged after Meg moved to Los Angeles; it started as a private songwriting outlet but soon evolved into a fully-fledged band with Meg at the helm.  Earlier this year Hand Habits released the stunning album, placeholder, released by Milk! Records / Remote Control Records. To make placeholder, Meg chose to work in a studio and bring in collaborators, entrusting them with what had previously been a very personal creative process. Over the course of 12 tracks, Meg emerges with new confidence as both a bandleader and singer. placeholder is as tender and immediate as anything Meg’s ever written, but it’s also intensely focused and refined, the work of a meticulous musician ready to share their singular vision with the world.  Wildfires raged in Southern California when Meg wrote the bulk of placeholder, and the anxiety that came with living in L.A. during that time exposes itself throughout these songs. “Fire is such a powerful symbol. It’s destructive, but it’s also generative,” Meg says. References to that particular mindset abound on placeholder, most notably on the stand-out track “wildfire”. This week, Meg announced a forthcoming EP (available via Bandcamp) with five covers of “wildfire” by Angel Olsen, Tara Jane O’Neil, Lomelda, John Andrews, and Kacey Johansing, with proceeds going to toward the Amazon Conservation Association. In a statement, they said: "Being a touring musician eight months out of the year, you are exposed to a lot of varying degrees of climate change effects in a short period of time. From the gasoline that’s used to fuel touring vehicles, to the massive amount of plastic waste at the end of every show, to the carbon emissions released into the air by all the travel, it’s often not the most environmentally conscious career. I wanted to contribute, even if in a small way, to the efforts at work by the people at the Amazon Conservation Association for being dedicated to preserving such a vast and heartbreakingly crucial part of our ecosystem that has been threatened by wildfires, deforestation, and the effects of climate change.  "I believe that writing and performing music can be a healing force, used for good, and not always for capitalizing on emotions and commodifying a personality or lifestyle. People need to be able to relate to each other, in times of joy, and especially in times of sorrow or struggle. The Wildfire Compilation, in partnership with Bandcamp and Saddle Creek, will be donating all of its funds raised to the ACA in hopes to lend a helping hand to those on the front lines of fighting climate change in places that may seem inaccessible to those of us unable to travel at length. I chose five artists, Tara Jane O’Neil, Lomelda, John Andrews, Angel Olsen, and Kacey Johansing to interpret and cover my song “wildfire” that I wrote during the California Wildfires in 2017. Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? We are from Camden south-western Sydney. The Music scene here is relatively small, though there are definitely a few people making strides as far as cultivating a progressive scene, not only by putting on shows for up and coming bands but also in terms of attracting bigger acts to the area and making making it a worthy stop for touring Australian bands. Waratah Records have been putting on All ages shows for a few years now and I OH YOU have just announced Out of Bounds festival for Jan 2020 which is all helping put the local area on the map. How did you first start playing music? I went to Homebake concert when i was in year 6. it was 2002 and immediately after all i wanted was an electric guitar. the trusty sammick saw alot of grinspoon riifs let me tell you.    How did the Dardi Shades Form? I had been mucking around acoustically for a few years when a local band who i knew had just parted ways. I invited a couple of the band around and we had a jam and then pretty much haven't stopped since.   What’s been happening recently? Recently we have been writing and recording. Played some cool shows and have the Sydney Beer Festival on December 1st where we are headlining the Sunday. Apart from that just gearing up to release more and more next year.  Your new single ‘Best Friends’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting? Our sound has always been very 'British'. with best friend we wanted to write a summer anthem and took cues from the likes of Circa Waves & Courtneers among others.   Where and when did you record/produce? We recorded earlier in the year at A-Sharp studios in Sydney.  Who did you work with during the creation of Best Friend? This is the second track we did with Adrian Breakspear, stoked with the output and definitely have a great relationship and plans to work together again moving forward! Who are you listening to at the moment? Some old, some new. The Courtneers, Whitney, Easy Life, Alvvays, Brittany Howard. What do you like to do away from music? Football (Soccer :/ ) and travel as much as i can.   How do you prepare for live performances and what do you most enjoy about performing? I enjoy engaging with the audience in a way that provides a unique and intimate experience that you can;t get simply listening to the record. What do you have planned for the rest of 2019 going into 2020? We are playing the Sydney Beer Festival December 1st. apart from that relax and gear up for a big 2020.   Favourite food and place to hangout? Nachos. Wherever has Nachos.

I invited a couple of the band around and we had a jam and then pretty much haven’t stopped since.

Our sound has always been very ‘British’. with best friend we wanted to write a summer anthem and took cues from the likes of Circa Waves & Courtneers among others.

SUPPORT FOR NATHAN BALL “Wonderfully fresh sounding indie songwriting with just a dash of pop music, it owes a debt to that enthralling trip to the heavens”. - Clash Music (UK) “The increasingly urgent and intertwined vocals, haunting vocal repetition, and thick swatches of guitar distortion place this track solidly alongside Daughter in the realm of darkly graceful alt-folk”. - The Line of Best Fit (UK) “A sunny, life-affirming indie bop that indulges your melancholy before whisking it away on a summer breeze”. - Music Feeds (AUS) UK-based singer-songwriter Nathan Ball has today revealed his new single ‘Borders’, ahead of his debut Australian headline tour in December. On ‘Borders’, mesmerising arpeggiated guitars set the tone for Nathan’s haunting and endearing vocal melodies, as they submerge the senses and ensnare the heartstrings. As the melancholic track unfolds, lush and swirling soundscapes stir amongst subtle percussion; building with a gradual crescendo into its soaring atmospheric and hypnotic choruses. Nathan talks about the meaning behind ‘Borders’: “’Borders’ is written about a turbulent relationship between a father and his son, where these barriers exist between them which prevent them from opening up to each other”. To coincide with the release, Nathan will embark on his debut Australian headline tour which will include five east-coast dates including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Byron Bay, with an appearance at Festival Of The Sun, Port Macquarie. This follows on from his last trip to Australia which included supporting Ziggy Albert’s 25-date sold out Australian tour. Previous single ‘Call It Love’ was widely embraced by the likes of triple j, GQ, Mixdown Magazine, ABC Local Radio, Music Feeds, Savage Thrills, The AU Review and Pony Anarchy. Nathan also mentions about his writing process - “When I write a song, I always record it on my phone, then put my headphones on and go and sit on the tube in London and listen to it as I go around. For some reason I like the feeling of having this song in my ears with other people around but only I can hear it, it feels like you’re on a bit of a journey. I often associate music with travelling so I guess I’m just putting it to the test.” In the coming weeks Nathan Ball will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Borders’. ‘Borders’ is available worldwide now NATHAN BALL DEBUT AUSTRALIAN HEADLINE TOUR THU 5 DEC | THE LANSDOWNE, SYDNEY NSW FRI 6 DEC | WORKERS CLUB, MELBOURNE VIC SAT 14 DEC | FESTIVAL OF THE SUN, PORT MACQUARIE NSW THU 19 DEC | BEACH HOTEL, BYRON BAY NSW FRI 20 DEC | BLACK BEAR LODGE, BRISBANE QLD FOLLOW NATHAN BALL FACEBOOK | TWITTER | INSTAGRAM | SOUNDCLOUD | SPOTIFY | APPLE MUSIC

IGGY POP SHARES MAC DEMARCO DIRECTED VIDEO FOR ‘SONALI’ STARRING LIZARD MAN

by the partae November 27, 2019
written by the partae

Iggy Pop has released a brand new video clip for ‘Sonali’ directed by Mac DeMarco, featuring DeMarco’s infamous Lizard Man.

The “unofficial” video stars DeMarco’s girlfriend Kiera McNally as Sonali and their companion Tommy Midnight as Lizard Man, a similar creature to that previously seen in DeMarco’s video for ‘Nobody‘.

‘Sonali’ was written by Ruby Sylvain and Leron Thomas and featured on Pop’s 2019 album Free, out now via Loma Vista / Caroline Australia.

Following up the album’s release in September, Pop’s eminent croon on ‘Sonali’ is now supported by an enchanting, yet equally haunting visual aid at the hands of DeMarco. To see what happens when two of the most eccentric men in music team up, we strongly suggest you watch ‘Sonali‘ now.

Mac DeMarco will be returning to Australia and New Zealand January 2020, details and tickets here.

PRAISE FOR ‘FREE’

“Iggy’s 18th solo album sees the rock’n’roll icon take control of his legacy with a contemplative and liberating collection that unshackles him from his past” ★★★★ – NME

“Existential fears inform these songs and they unfold through a studio palette that mixes the languid post-punk groove of Love’s Missing with the jittery electronic rhythms of Sonali.. it’s an eclectic album… it’s of the times” – The Sydney Morning Herald

8/10 – Uncut

“The original proto-punk [is] pushing the bar higher with each new exploration… a moody, intelligent, downbeat exploration of some dark electronic moods” – STACK Magazine

“Exercising his desire for freedom by trying something entirely new.” – The Music

“‘Free’ is his most surprising record in decades, and one of his most collaborative… propulsive… his voice sounds rich and heavy, with a depth and fragility” – The New Yorker
