Psychedelic Porn Crumpets debut long awaited third album, the frenetic ‘And Now For The Whatchamacallit’, announce USA & UK/European Tours

May is proving to be a heady month for Perth’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, as the release of their new album – And Now For The Whatchamacallit – coincides with their global tour dates, currently taking the band through Europe, the UK, Australia and North America. The album, a culmination of experiences lived on the road and influences stemming from the last few years of chaos for the band, is finally unveiled in all its glory – a testament to the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ never relenting vivacious attitude and hungry approach to powerful music.

Fans received a kicking indicator of what their new album had in store with the infectious single,‘Bill’s Mandolin’, a fitting continuation of pace from previous singles ‘Keen For Kick Ons’,‘Social Candy’ and fan release ‘My Friend’s A Liquid’, yet the broader scope of And Now For The Whatchamacallit is representative of a dynamic band flourishing as their control over the creative direction continues to strengthen and diversify sonically. Already receiving airplay and commendations from BBC Radio 1 and Triple J, the music Psychedelic Porn Crumpets prescribe for a good time is a medicine that can’t be passed up.

Recorded between frontman Jack McEwan’s bedroom and Perth’s Tone City Studios,…Whatchamacallit has developed an enticing and engaging blend of guitars and fuzzed out melodies, as well as an urgency in McEwan’s lyrics that makes Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ musical execution one all their own. “The original concept was to take a 1930’s carnival that had been re-imagined for future generations, a collage of Punch and Judy, Carousels and coconut shy’s that progresses in musical concepts and travels with the listener. Then as we started traveling I was swept off into my own kind of circus, the odyssey of touring life. Large nights out, larger characters, drunken recollections of foreign cities and rabbit hole-ing into insanity (kindly illustrated by Quentin Blake)”. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

A Sgt. Peppers-esque chaos rears its head in the jaunting nature of ‘Bill’s Mandolin’, while the calmer, hazed out end of the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ spectrum is realised beautifully on‘Native Tongue’ and ‘Digital Hunger’. The latter, acting as a masterful blend of sounds and rich psych textures, ‘Native Tongue’ is an anchoring track of ‘…Whatchamacallit’; an album cut that represents the essentials of a band in a great creative space.

PRAISE FOR PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS

“While the world’s been getting itself ready to fully embrace PPC, this band’s been quietly (or not, if you’ve seen ‘em play) getting to the peak of their powers as players and songwriters. Tell you what, now that our collective eyes and ears are open to this band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are ready to make it count.”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

“Their latest single ‘Bill’s Mandolin’ an example of why they’re in such hot demand, with their brand of wailing guitars, heavy rhythms, and off-the-wall lyricism hitting all the right notes with fans around the world.” Life Without Andy

“Shredding guitar riffs meet trippy musical dream sequences and it doesn’t slow down for a single second”. Ticketmaster (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

“Bill’s Mandolin’ kicks you in the face from the get-go and you will beg for more as this sound explosion takes for a lap around the room at sonic speed.”
Savage Thrills (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

“Bill’s Mandolin is a sprawling slap of psychedelia, trudging guitars, and screeching vocals; the Porn Crumpets have continued their undefeated run of singles.”
Stack Magazine  (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

As Album Number Three, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets marks a brand new chapter as a band. Free of any sophomore album pressures or the need to make an industry splash, the group have instead explored the sounds that have formed a mature and exciting musical output. The energy captured on the album mirrors that of the band’s live presence; one that has been well received and praised throughout Australia, the United States, Europe and the UK. Bolstering the strength of the music with a special vinyl release, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are releasing a limited edition red and white vinyl edition of the album for Australia and New Zealand fans, available for pre-order now! Pre-Order Link

Currently in the middle of a 29-date world tour that includes a headline tour of the UK and Europe, British, European festival dates, German shows supporting Interpol and Japan’s laudedSummersonic Festival, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are in the perfect position to bring…Whatchamacallit to thousands of new ears. The foundation work was laid early, with the band having sold out tours through the UK and Australia, and making an impressive debut with American audiences this year, clocking fourteen shows around their SXSW run. Following on from their signing with Marathon Artists (global territories) and Caroline Australia (domestic), Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have been ensuring that the moves they have been taking forward haven’t been steps, but strides.

June sees the band return home to tour some of their biggest venues yet, capping things off with a rambunctious live debut at Splendour in the Grass, followed by their just announced 27 dateNorth American tour and another tour of the UK & Europe with a rollicking 19 dates . Their schedule may be extensive and daunting, but nothing compares to the shows that are accompanying the release of And Now For The Whatchamacallit.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have levelled up for Album #3, 2019 best make sure it’s ready for what is still to come.

TOTTY UNVEIL THE LUSH AND RELATABLE NEW SINGLE ‘LUCKY’ SUPPORTING SKEGGS NATIONALLY THIS JULY

by the partae May 31, 2019
written by the partae

“I think it’s their best recording yet.” – Declan Byrne

The accompanying video chronicles how quickly the worst bad day can become a good one, whilst taking a tour of the band’s hometown of Wollongong’s lesser known sites.

Returning with their quirky melodic grunge, TOTTY today announce the lush and relatable new single ‘Lucky’.

In contrast to their usual raucous tracks, ‘Lucky’ is a standout. Slower than expected its still replete with grungy guitar and head thumping drums – it’s sure to be a crowd favourite live. Produced by Brett Jansch (Dune Rats) and engineered by Jack Nigro (DMA’s, Skeggs) at The Grove studio, it’s a far cry from the sheds they began in.

Ruminating on the ups and downs of life, front-woman Kelly says of the track “‘Lucky’ is written as a response to anyone who has ever told you that you shouldn’t be proud about your achievements or hard work. A lot of times it’s easy to doubt yourself when people are putting you down, and we hope the song can make people realise “Nah fuck that, I worked hard for this!”

At the age of 17, his only form of normality - his family - would implode as his parents’ strained relationship collapsed. With no money, no car and a family in turmoil, Lane turned to dealing drugs in a last resort attempt to put food on the table.  Lane’s teenage years would be a dark time - he took inspiration from music, art and figures like Kanye West, Donald Glover, Basquiat and Christopher Nolan, to help construct his own sense of originality and drift his consciousness away from his troubled surroundings. He later turned to his own poetry, exploring the racial implications of a mixed family, senseless violence and surviving on the streets.

THE RAMONES – like AC/DC, like Motorhead – are true and singular rock icons; a band whose music became its own genre; a band who influenced every other band who ever smoked an amp in their wake. And in the Ramones case it wasn’t just subsequent punk bands from The Sex Pistols to The Buzzcocks to The Misfits to Bad Religion to Green Day to The Living End - it was also hard rock/metal bands. Metallica, Guns N Roses, Pearl Jam, even Kiss – they all love the Ramones, and were influenced by their energy, economy and simplicity. It’s no surprise that Epitaph Records tried desperately to sign the band following the success of The Offspring in the early ‘90s, just as it’s no surprise that the Ramones’ iconic logo has become one of the most ubiquitous designs in street wear and fashion over the last decade.  CJ RAMONE wasn’t an original member – sadly, none of the originally four are still alive - but replaced Dee Dee Ramone as the bass thumping heart and soul of the Ramones. 23-year-old CJ rose to the occasion, never letting Dee Dee’s 1-2-3-4 energy flag for a moment and bringing never-say-die enthusiasm to the band when it needed it most. The late and great Tommy Ramone meant it when he thanked CJ for “keeping the band young” at the Ramones’ Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame induction in 2002. CJ was with The Ramones (and post Ramones band The Ramainz featuring Dee Dee and Marky) for a decade and played on the band’s final three studio albums, Mondo Bizarro, Acid Eaters and Adios Amigos. His presence is clearly felt and heard on all three via his powering bass, a handful of lead vocals on each, and original tunes. CJ also appeared on the live albums Loco Live, Greatest Hits Live and We’re Outta Here where he can be heard singing Dee Dee’s songs. CJ RAMONE released his first solo album in 2012 and signed to legendary West Coast punk label Fat Wreck Chords in 2013. His first two albums for the label, Last Chance To Dance and American Beauty, included backing from members of the Adolescents and Social Distortion. His just released third Fat album, The Holy Spell, includes a heartfelt tribute to his late friend and collaborator, Adolescents founder Steve Soto. The title of the new album tells of CJ’s ongoing love affair with punk rock: “I never lost that magical feeling that you get from music, and that’s where the title came in,” he says. “The bands that I listened to when I was young that I really enjoyed, I can still put that music on now, and it still has the same magic for me.”  CJ RAMONE’s solo albums keep the Ramone’s flame alive and have been universally acclaimed for their power and quality. CJ is a fine singer and songwriter, and knowing the Ramones music from the inside, he is able to bring that sound and spirit to his own work. He also taps into the SoCal punk-pop sound that the likes of which Fat label mates such as NOFX, No Use For A Name and The Descendents are famous for, and which the Ramones inspired in the first place.

CJ RAMONE ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TOUR Beloved Ramone confirms a run of shows this September

by the partae May 31, 2019
written by the partae

CJ RAMONE, fresh from headlining this year’s annual Joey Ramone Birthday Bash, takes the baseball bat to Australian venues this September.

One of the last few surviving punk rockers blessed with famous Ramones sobriquet (and the only who wasn’t behind the drumkit), CJ is bringing his killer band of cretins for a guitar crushing session of psychotherapy!

Make no mistake, you are NEVER going to hear the Ramones songs done better than CJ RAMONE does them. If you missed the Ramones – or just miss them – this is the show you need to see.

I Wanna Be Sedated/ Judy Is A Punk/ Rockaway Beach/ Sheena Is A Punk Rocker/ I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend/The KKK Took My Baby Away/ Baby I Love You/ California Sun/ Cretin Family/ Psycho Therapy/R.A.M.O.N.E.S./ The Crusher/ Glad To See You Go / Blitzkreig Bop

“His set was full of Ramones’ classics, ‘The KKK Took My Baby Away’, ‘Sheena Is A Punk Rocker’, ‘California Sun’ and this reviewer personal favourite ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’. The crowd sang along like each song was a national anthem and too some people they probably are.” –The Dwarf

“CJ and his band were clearly having a ball on stage. This wasn’t about a pay check, this was about a love of music, punk rock and The Ramones. I loved every second of it. Incredible!” – Colin’s Punk Rock World

THE RAMONES – like AC/DC, like Motorhead – are true and singular rock icons; a band whose music became its own genre; a band who influenced every other band who ever smoked an amp in their wake. ZUU finds Denzel returning to his South Florida roots both sonically and thematically, reflecting on the lessons his surroundings and family have taught him, while drawing influence from the deep, diverse soundscape of South Florida rap that he was surrounded by.

The Twelve’len-directed video for ‘RICKY’ captures scenes of Denzel’s childhood in Miami – filmed in the backyard of MMA and brawling legend Dada 5000, where Dawg Fight, the documentary on backyard brawling was filmed.

Denzel’s late brother Treon was actively involved in backyard brawling in Miami and often fought in this same yard during Denzel’s childhood. The video also features Dada 5000 as a referee and an appearance by Chocolate, a fighter who was featured in the documentary.

Likewise, ‘SPEEDBOAT’ meditates on the consequences of living the fast life; masterfully bouncing between melodic moments and combative bar, with Denzel refusing to fall victim to the violence that plagued his childhood in Miami.

New album ZUU follows TA13OO, which debuted at #28 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, alongside praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and Stereogum – and landing triple j Feature Album here in Australia.

Juan Wauters today has released his new album Introducing Juan Pablo via Captured Tracks / Remote Control. Traveling continues to leave a mark on Juan Wauters. His previous album, with its folkloric airs and its Latin roots, made that clear. Introducing Juan Pablo also embraces that spirit, although his main journey is internal. Introducing... exposes Wauters two worlds, his two languages, and his day-to-day life in the neighborhood and his life as an artist. Though he was born in Uruguay, Wauters has lived in New York for a long time. "At first, I wanted to show another musical face for this series of records. For me, Juan Pablo is part of a more personal search. And that has to do with migration: when you move to the United States, the second name ceases to exist. Since I moved here, I'm just Juan. But in Uruguay I'm Juan Pablo Wauters. I felt it was significant to retake my middle name." His immigrant's side. His sense of belonging. His social life and his use of language. His need to work. And the even stronger need that his work doesn't become monotonous. His dream of another possible world: a world where all worlds fit. Juan Wauters went through all this to introduce us to Juan Pablo. They are the same person: one among the whole crowd. He is here to share his songs, his field recordings, his videos and his live performances. Everything comes from the same creative head. Everything springs up with the same intention - not intentional at all - to express himself freely. Purchase / Stream: https://juan-wauters.lnk.to/IJP

With the recent release of a compilation on the renowned Global Underground label, Bäumel has managed to elevate his popularity even further. From being invited by Radio 1 to contribute to the esteemed Essential Mix series, to his Afterlife released single ‘Glutes' being voted one of the biggest tracks of the year, 2017 was a year to remember for Patrice, and a sign of things to come... Since graduating from the Red Bull Music Academy in Sao Paolo in 2002 and deciding to turn his hobby into a career, Patrice has been on a mission to create and share music that spreads love, positivity and happiness, works in a peak time context and most of all connects people with each other. Patrice was born in the small East German town of Freital, amidst the restrictive political situation of Eastern Bloc communism. With his father working as a music journalist, there was music around the house all the time. From free jazz, Frank Zappa, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson right through to rock and punk bands like The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground, Sex Pistols or The Ramones. His father encouraged him to find his own musical path, which led him to childhood obsessions with Depeche Mode and The Cure, the bands whose melancholic nature still are at the root of Patrice's sound today. In 1996 Pat moved to Amsterdam from his native Germany, an exciting and vibrant city full of optimism and diversity, without the tension and economic crisis that he left back home. Dabbling in Djing and production, Patrice was on a new life-changing journey to a path he now calls his own. He found his way to Club 11 where he became a resident, before naturally migrating with the same core team to Trouw, his nights 'Black Magic' and ‘Hifi' becoming favourites at the now legendary venue. Bäumel infuses his productions and DJ sets with infectious energy and a sense of adventure, creating a sound that satisfies the mind as well as the body. He calls it 'techno music for grown-ups'. Trademark productions like ‘Surge’, ‘Glutes’ and ‘Roar’ and his remix of Cubicolour’s ‘Deep End Thrills’ are perfect examples of that philosophy. The buzz around him is growing.

His father encouraged him to find his own musical path, which led him to childhood obsessions with Depeche Mode and The Cure, the bands whose melancholic nature still are at the root of Patrice’s sound today.

In 1996 Pat moved to Amsterdam from his native Germany, an exciting and vibrant city full of optimism and diversity, without the tension and economic crisis that he left back home. Dabbling in Djing and production, Patrice was on a new life-changing journey to a path he now calls his own. He found his way to Club 11 where he became a resident, before naturally migrating with the same core team to Trouw, his nights ‘Black Magic’ and ‘Hifi’ becoming favourites at the now legendary venue.

Bäumel infuses his productions and DJ sets with infectious energy and a sense of adventure, creating a sound that satisfies the mind as well as the body. He calls it ‘techno music for grown-ups’. Trademark productions like ‘Surge’, ‘Glutes’ and ‘Roar’ and his remix of Cubicolour’s ‘Deep End Thrills’ are perfect examples of that philosophy.

The buzz around him is growing.

Stephan Bodzin is back! Following his sold out 2018 tour, which included thisamazing sunset performance on the St. Kilda foreshore, one of the world’s biggest LIVE electronic music performers will be returning to Australia in September.  He is the first artist to be announced at the newly minted Thornbury Social Club in Melbourne, the new multi-level warehouse space located in the city's Northside. He will be supported by two of Australia's brightest emerging dance music stars: Made In Paris and The Journey. In Sydney, Novel will team up with Division Agency to host the German’s headline performance at the Enmore Theatre. Stephan Bodzin, who boasts the titles of DJ, producer, performer, and record label founder, is considered a wizard in the world of analogue synthesizers.
No doubt the German-born wunderkind's ability to use music to express his deepest thoughts and feelings came from his upbringing: he grew up amongst vintage drum machines as his father specialised in creating experimental sound. This is definitely a huge clue into why his work is described as melodic and emotive techno, and whether or not you're familiar with him, his music has the ability to transport listeners to other worlds. Having worked with the likes of Depeche Mode, Booka Shade, and Thomas Schumacher, his impressive collaborative exploration isn't what's kept Bodzin at the top of his game: it's his ability to produce out of this universe, mind-melting live sets.

Stephan Bodzin is back! Following his sold out 2018 tour, which included thisamazing sunset performance on the St. Kilda foreshore, one of the world’s biggest LIVE electronic music performers will be returning to Australia in September.

He is the first artist to be announced at the newly minted Thornbury Social Club in Melbourne, the new multi-level warehouse space located in the city’s Northside. He will be supported by two of Australia’s brightest emerging dance music stars: Made In Paris and The Journey. In Sydney, Novel will team up with Division Agency to host the German’s headline performance at the Enmore Theatre.

Stephan Bodzin, who boasts the titles of DJ, producer, performer, and record label founder, is considered a wizard in the world of analogue synthesizers. No doubt the German-born wunderkind’s ability to use music to express his deepest thoughts and feelings came from his upbringing: he grew up amongst vintage drum machines as his father specialised in creating experimental sound. This is definitely a huge clue into why his work is described as melodic and emotive techno, and whether or not you’re familiar with him, his music has the ability to transport listeners to other worlds.

Having worked with the likes of Depeche Mode, Booka Shade, and Thomas Schumacher, his impressive collaborative exploration isn’t what’s kept Bodzin at the top of his game: it’s his ability to produce out of this universe, mind-melting live sets.

Stephan Bodzin (GER)

Stephan Bodzin has been a hugely influential figure within the global techno scene for years. The reason the German has endured where many had fallen by the wayside is because of his devotion to authenticity. “Without it, everything would appear to be nothing more than a hollow shell,” says the son of an experimental musician who is now a revered talent in his own right.

After starting out by composing music for several prestigious European theatres, Stephan Bodzin soon fell in love with nocturnal club sounds and began producing his own brand of techno. He impressed right from the off and has gone on to work with Marc Romboy many times, including on albums like “Luna” and more recently “Kerberos & Styx” in 2014, and with Oliver Huntemann under myriad aliases including Rekorder. The fruits of these labours have defined the modern techno scene until today.

“Throughout my releases and all my collaborations I managed to let my ideas flow freely and to develop my own style,” Stephan Bodzin explains, and he proved that with 2007’s debut album, “Liebe ist…” and the many other original productions that have followed, such as 2014’s single ‘Sungam’, which sat at number four on the RA charts, and his massive remix of Super Flu’s “Jo Gurt” in the same year.

Stephan Bodzin productions are driving, hypnotic things with a very real and memorable sense of melody that sticks long in the mind. Of course, running his own Herzblut label has also defined his career since 2006, and as well as being a place for his own work, has also housed refreshing contemporary music from Dominik Eulberg, Max Cooper and Pig&Dan amongst many more.

In the club, meanwhile, Stephan Bodzin is both a story telling DJ who really takes dance floors on a ride through his many musical influences, but is also an impressive live specialist who creates mesmerising, high impact soundtracks on the fly. Across all continents, there is barely a club or festival in the world worth its salt that he hasn’t headlined at some point or other.

Stephan’s music is as polarizing as he is, both as DJ and live artist. But there’s one statement that holds true for all of his productions: they are certainly of the highest ‘authenticity’.

Made in Paris (AUS)

With a mind for the melodic drive of techno, tech house and deep moods, Made in Paris remains in a league of her own, noted by copious media and industry tastemakers as one of country’s top underground DJ’s, producers and label curators. Dropping hints from her recent USA tour through to Australia’s Piknic Electronik, Output Festival and midyear at Splendour In The Grass, the Sydney artist and record label curator depicts the blood of her work across the globe in her deep and dark production journey. The Made in Paris project has entrapped enthusiasts within the industry from Maceo Plex and Animal Trainer to Joseph Capriati’s techno allure, with a globally acclaimed Mixmag, BBC Radio 1 and her most recent Triple J Mix Up Residency, making her a devilish staple in consoles across warehouses and concrete jungles of the underground.

The Journey (AUS)

After the best part of 10 years learning, becoming, and now sculpting Australia’s House and Techno scene, Tom Evans and Jacob Malmo decided to pool their creative talents and energies together for something greater. Enter: The Journey. The concept for ‘The Journey’ began one Winter’s morning on the way home from an elaborate night out. Their debut single ‘Principium’ on their imprint UGENIUS Music, as well as the Jamie Stevens remix, was well received globally from artists such as Hernan Cattaneo, Matthias Meyer, Emanuel Satie and Tim Engelhardt, to name a few. In Australia, it reached number 9 in the ARIA Club Chart stayed in the top 50 for ten weeks, an outstanding achievement for an underground dance music record.

Date

5th July

Location

Ibiza

Diynamic will once again keep up their annual tradition of hosting a one-off party at iconic Ibiza venue DC-10 this summer. On July 5th, Solomun will headline this event with Maceo Plex (both solo and back to back) as well as Lehar b2b Musumeci, Adana Twins, Moscoman, Magit Cocoon and Innellea LIVE.

For the last three years, Diynamic and DC-10 have come together to serve up one of the season’s most memorable parties. It is a chance to catch the full Diynamic experience in the most famous open-air club in the world, with next level sound and a clued-up crowd.

This year label head Solomun brings his emotionally charged house and techno for a special opening set in the lush garden of DC-10. He will then step up to the hallowed terrace and get up close and personal with the crowd as he goes back-to-back with Maceo Plex. The Mosaic boss deals in sci-fi techno and epic grooves, so this is sure to be a fantastic party.

Also playing will be key label associates Lehar and Musumeci who serve up another of their regular and much-loved back-to-backs, long time Diynamic stalwarts Adana Twins with their own take on house, plus Disco Halal label boss Moscoman. Truly unpredictable in what he does, disco, house, trance and plenty more all colour his sets, with further music from Magit Cocoon and a live show from Innellea making this an unmissable date for your diary this summer.

Crank up the sub-woofer and load up the CD stacker because Newcastle's SCENE & HEARD is back and expanding North into Maroons territory with two Queensland dates.  Following a massive debut last year, the festival will debut with a brand new line up in Cairns on Sunday 27 October, then head south to Brisbane on Saturday 2 November before a grand finale in its original home of Newcastle on Sunday 10 November. With last year's line up featuring the likes of The Living End, Spiderbait, Something for Kate, Sneaky Sound System and more, SCENE & HEARD organisers are upping the game for year two.  They've curated an impressive live soundtrack aimed at transporting punters straight back to a time when Adam and Will reigned breakfast supreme and LIVID, Homebake and the Big Day Out were etched into the Australian festival vernacular.  So who is it? The SCENE & HEARD team reveal the first announcement of local and international artists on Tuesday 4 June. Head HERE to register for the SCENE & HEARD presale. SCENE & HEARD festival expands to Brisbane and Cairns

Crank up the sub-woofer and load up the CD stacker because Newcastle’s SCENE & HEARD is back and expanding North into Maroons territory with two Queensland dates.

Following a massive debut last year, the festival will debut with a brand new line up in Cairns on Sunday 27 October, then head south to Brisbane on Saturday 2 November before a grand finale in its original home of Newcastle on Sunday 10 November.

With last year’s line up featuring the likes of The Living End, Spiderbait, Something for Kate, Sneaky Sound System and more, SCENE & HEARD organisers are upping the game for year two.  They’ve curated an impressive live soundtrack aimed at transporting punters straight back to a time when Adam and Will reigned breakfast supreme and LIVID, Homebake and the Big Day Out were etched into the Australian festival vernacular.

So who is it? The SCENE & HEARD team reveal the first announcement of local and international artists on Tuesday 4 June. Head HERE to register for the SCENE & HEARD presale.
