EMA

– Debuts “Fire Water Air LSD” video
– To support Depeche Mode on European tour
– New album ‘Exile In The Outer Ring’ out now on City Slang

“Blasting the binary arguments that dominate America, Erika M Anderson’s brilliant third album looks into the Outer Ring.” –The Sunday Times Culture
“Each track is dripping with societal reform, documenting identity, poverty, capitalism and feminism through surly and meditated lyrics that reflect the contemporary age” – Aesthetica
“EMA’s powers of empathetic evocations prove potent.” – **** Record Collector
“EMA takes a stand against appropriation in her superb third album.” – ***** FT
“Raw vocals & impassioned delivery draw attention to EMA’s deeply personal and starkly candid lyrics “- The Line of Best Fit
“It’s an album of heavy drones, self-loathing and Erika’s gloriously twisted wit and feels like a sonic monument to the current fucked-up status of America in 2017” – The Quietus
“‘Aryan Nation’ is a noise-laden chronicle of the jilted ‘white trash’ Midwest, stuck in a vicious cycle of crime, poverty and dejection. The title alone is bound to raise a few eyebrows” – Drowned In Sound
“A diverse palette of sparks & friction applied to a canvas of shifting unease” – 4/5 DORK
“EMA doesn’t preach, she simply draws serious attention to deep-set societal issues. When it’s done in such a striking and powerful way, it’s hard not to take notice” – DIY
“Themes around poverty and alienation have never felt so emotionally compelling” – Electronic Sound
“Clever, unflinchingly experimental and catchy.” – MOJO
“Anderson has all but perfected a very delicate balance. She presents subjects boldly and forcefully, but also with a great deal of sensitivity and thought-provoking tact” – 4/5 The Skinny, Album of the Month

Having recently been confirmed to support Depeche Mode on their early 2018 European arena tour, EMA has shared her new video for “Fire Water Air LSD”, taken from her recent album ‘Exile In The Outer Ring’. Directed by DaVideo Tape with art direction by Erika M. Anderson (EMA), the clip combines footage of an analog performance utilizing Tachyons and artist tools designed by Logan Owlbeemoth and Omebi Velouria in Florida, with footage of EMA shot at Open Signal Portland Community Media Center.

“I had seen DaVideo Tape around PDX and the media center by my house. He always wore an X-Files hat and made crazy VR.  He liked the reptilian virgin mary t-shirt design I had made for EMA,” says EMA. “I had a week before leaving on tour and I really needed a video made — I discovered he is a rad analog video artist so I asked him to make an EMA vid.  He brought in his own Reptilian mask. I think the footage is fucking hilarious. He opened up a very playful side of me and this is one of the only videos where you will see me dancing and just kind of goofing off. Our inspirations were reptilians and the county fair. I used a lot of lizards and snakes in my own VR project in 2015 — to me they represent layers of hidden meaning and hidden reality, or at least belief in hidden layers of reality. The county fair is just cuz when I wrote this song I wanted it to sound like Guns N Roses coming out of grandstand speakers at a demolition derby.”

In this song cycle, written entirely before the last presidential election, EMA situates herself in what she calls “The Outer Ring.” It’s a zone between the country and the city, both literally and figuratively — a surprisingly diverse world of people united only by poverty and tension, and by the anger that comes from having your story and your struggles erased from the narrative. The vignettes here are less about an actual place than scenes that could be unfolding anywhere in America, including the stories of recent immigrants, defiant feminists, nihilistic mall teens, police shootings, and ex-urbanites who’ve been pushed out of city centers by stagnating wages and rising expense, forced up against resentful rural communities swallowed by sprawl.

Mike Hadreas of Perfume Genius recently described EMA as a world-builder in an interview with The Quietus, and with ‘Exile In The Outer Ring’, she once again presciently details the complexity of our modern world. But the terrain here is interior as well as exterior.  EMA’s greatest strengths have always been honesty and intimacy, and this record fuses the personal with the political landscape at large. Musically, it’s a throwback to (EMA’s previous band) Gowns’ ‘Red State’, a widely influential underground cult classic.

EMA is not new to material that speaks truth to power (“Active Shooter,” “Song For Ghostship”), and while these songs pull no punches in confronting ugly realities, they never wallow in despair. ‘Exile In The Outer Ring’ is a portrait of resilience that renders American poverty and resentment with frightening realism and deep empathy. A personal, confrontational, but ultimately redemptive album from a quintessentially American artist at the peak of her form.

Blasterjaxx combine with Wasback & D3FAI on Flight 49

Listen Now

Blasterjaxx team up with the Italian Wasback and Argentinian D3FAI for a huge track in the shape of Flight 49.

These young talents came up with the original idea for the track and sent it to Blasterjaxx, who heard serious potential in it. They suggested a collaborative effort, and now the finished track sees the light of day via their very own Maxximize Records.

Launching immediately into a mind-warping build whose huge upwards thrust mirror the aviation theme, Flight 49 quickly drops into a bouncing, skippy house beat with manic bleepy melodies creating a sense of hysteria. The airline vocals and sound effects of planes taking off add atmospheric layers as an epic, commanding melody swells. The driving bass and crazy riffs are fired back up when the track drops, and all in all it’s an excellent combination of four highly creative minds.

Blasterjaxx gave this one an airing during Amsterdam Dance Event at SLAM! MixMarathon at Amsterdam’s huge Ziggo Dome as well as at Don’t Let Daddy Know in Manchester, both occasions eliciting magnificent reactions. With further support from the likes of Nicky Romero, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Hardwell, Yves V and Tom Swoon, it’s destined for massive things.

Wasback & D3FAI ‘Flight 49 (Blasterjaxx Edit)’ will be released on Maxximize Records. Grab your copy here

Vancouver’s Nordic Trax celebrates 20 years with new compilation | Listen

by the partae October 31, 2017
written by the partae

VANCOUVER’S NORDIC TRAX CELEBRATES 20 YEARS WITH NEW COMPILATION.

20 YEARS OF NORDIC TRAX MARKS A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE WITH TRACKS AND REMIXES FROM MARK FARINA, CRISTOPH, HALO VARGA, FISH GO DEEP, JAY TRIPWIRE, HARRI & THE REVENGE, JT DONALDSON & MANY MORE.

LISTEN TO GAVIN FROOM – “SUNSETS”

20 years of Nordic Trax marks a significant milestone for Luke McKeehan’s globally recognized house music label based out of Vancouver, Canada.

The compilation is both retrospective and fresh featuring exclusive new tracks from an acclaimed label roster alongside a selection of Luke’s personal favourites.

Originally formed as an outlet for timeless material, the Canadian label has grown into a humble classic house institution, but gradually and strong– year by year, release by release. It has never allied itself with a scene or a sound, so the mind doesn’t automatically tether it to a specific place or time, the way many a house music sound has often pandered to.

Twenty years from its inception the label certainly doesn’t look its age with this guiding ethos continuing, says McKeehan whom for the past two decades has embraced taking risks on new unknown artists.

“The goal of Nordic Trax has never been to be ‘on-trend’ or follow the pack — rather to put out timeless music that reflects what I’m hearing and how I’m feeling and let the chips fall where they may. In fact there’s a fairly decent list of projects I’ve passed on that have gone on to be hits. You can’t win them all, but I’m not interested in winning per se. This is a culture that has given me so much, and I feel obliged with our output to contribute with strictly quality music — not just flood all the channels with whatever I can sign.”
One of the compilation’s exclusive highlights comes from Mark Farina & Moulton Music’s Homero Espinosa whose delivers a 2017 rework of West coast producer Alexander East’s “Believe En Me” – without question one the label’s best-selling & most iconic tracks.

Before the catalogue is opened up to showcase many producers from Philly to Hawaii as well as break out tracks from UK talents including Cristoph, The Revenge, alongside brand new exclusives from Spain’s Nacho Marco, Jon Delerious and the prolific Gavin Froome — remixed by French producer Giom.

Support of Nordic Trax’s most recent music continues to pour from the likes of Dixon, Skream, Joris Voorn, Luciano, Kenny Dope, DJ T, King Britt, Tensnake, Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Fish Go Deep, Franck Roger, Jamie Jones, Dubfire and many more.

The result of such a carefully curated track list, plucked with love from such a wide array of output from lazy disco to chunkier sounds is a proudly personal album from one of the scene’s most structurally sound labels.

A compilation that showcases not only the deep diversity of musical styles Nordic Trax has in its discography but serves as a representation of the curvature in house music we all continue to enjoy.

20 Years of Nordic Trax

MORE ON FRIENDSHIP:

Friendship is a Philadelphia-based band currently comprised of Dan Wriggins, Peter Gill, Mike Cormier, Evangeline Krajewski, and Jon Samuels.

Gill, Cormier, and Wriggins, all originally from Maine, began performing as Friendship in 2015, when they shared an apartment in Philadelphia. They released an LP, You’re Going to Have to Trust Me, on Burst and Bloom Records in late 2015, and an EP, F/V Hope in 2017 with Philadelphia’s Sleeper Records.

Their new album Shock Out of Season will come out November 3 on the Chicago-based Orindal Records. It is a collection of songs about work, friends, love, and loneliness, lifted by synthesizer, pedal steel, and Rhodes piano, and set against a combination of live and programmed drums.

Wriggins’ lyrics reflect conversation, humor, and calamity. They stress his characters’ unmediated involvement in each other’s lives, which transcends and is frustrated by their failed communications. These tensions are expanded by the band’s twisted articulation of Americana – waves of ambient pedal steel, droning synthesizers and drum machines, vibraphone, electric piano, and percussion surge and fall alongside minimal guitar and bass patterns.

BUY TICKETS TO I MISS YOU SPRING 2018 TOUR: HERE

“[‘I Miss You’] comes packed with the bright symphonic elements synonymous with any Clean Bandit project, living up to the hype of an act still hot off their latest hits ‘Symphony,’ featuring Zara Larsson and ‘Rockabye’ with Sean Paul and Anne-Marie.” — Billboard

Chart-topping, GRAMMY award-winning, UK trio Clean Bandit, unveil a brilliant new single “I Miss You” feat. Julia Michaels alongside the band’s self-directed video – WATCH HERE – in celebration of their recently announced North American I Miss You Spring 2018 tour (full itinerary enclosed below).

“I Miss You” sees Clean Bandit return with a sentimental, tear-jerking smash and one of the band’s most inspired songs to date. Sonically, the band take it back a notch while retaining their matchless, experimental sound – something which has seen the trio become one of the most successful and biggest-selling singles acts of the century.

Produced by Jack Patterson and Grace Chatto alongside the band’s resident producer, Mark Ralph, vocal duties stem from the inimitable talent that is Julia Michaels.  Over the last few years Michaels has made a name for herself as one of the most in demand songwriters, penning massive hits like Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry.” This year she made her debut as a solo artist with the release of her multi-platinum selling debut single “Issues.”

After meeting in Los Angeles this summer, the two parties joined forces for a writing session shortly after, leading to the birth of “I Miss You.” Inspired by Julia Michaels’ personal heartbreak, the new track is certain to resonate with fans across the globe for months to come. The accompanying official video – directed by the band themselves and shot across Los Angeles and the UK – weaves together striking landscape shots and powerful performance scenes, with Clean Bandit [formed of brothers Luke and Jack Patterson and Grace Chatto] providing yet another masterclass in world-class visuals.

Of the track, Chatto explains: “It’s a simple song, about the unbelievable pain of breaking up with someone you love. It was an honor to work with Julia Michaels; “Issues” is my favorite song so far this year. She’s super talented and really nice too. Making the video in the desert outside of Los Angeles was very special — we got to know each other better in the blazing heat. We experimented with special effects and train tracks.”

Clean Bandit’s new single follows an undeniable year for the UK collective. The trio – who have consistently pushed the boundaries of modern pop with their diverse blend of electronic, dancehall, classical, R&B and pop – released their 10 million-selling single “Rockabye” last year. Shooting to #1 in over 40 countries, the track became the longest-running #1 in the United Kingdom in 22 years. Clean Bandit followed the success of “Rockabye” with “Symphony” feat. Zara Larsson, which shot to #1 in 20 countries. The band’s 2014 breakthrough single “Rather Be” ft.Jess Glynne (spawned from their debut album New Eyes) has now surpassed 10 million global sales.

This spring, Clean Bandit will embark on their North American headline tour – kicking off at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on March 26th and wrapping at The Beacham in Orlando, Florida on April 28th. The tour will be powered by NYLON as well as The Ally Coalition – a group of individuals throughout the music, fashion, and entertainment communities seeking to end discrimination against LGBTQ people. Volunteers from TAC will be present at Clean Bandit’s concerts throughout North America to help get fans involved in the fight against discrimination.

Moha Releases New Single “A-Side” feat. on new album ‘FIT’

MOHA
Releases New Single:

“A-SIDE”
STREAM

“Featuring eclectic, up and coming artists with prominent potential is the lifeblood around here at TMN. Which is why, when we came across the first single from French-Senegalese artist Moha‘s debut LP, FIT, the appropriately titled alt-pop R&B burner “A-Side,”  we knew we had to jump all over it and get it into the ears of our readers.”

FIT Album Debut Party
October 23rd, 2017
Rough Trade
New York, NY
8pm
TICKETS

Out now, Senegalese-American artist, Moha, releases the culmination of his time spent across three continents with first single “A-Side.” A cut off his forthcoming debut full-length album, FIT,  Moha channels  a rare perspective on what life’s journey entails in different parts of the world.

As a multi-insturmentalist, using his voice, organic instrumentation and production, Moha has managed to capture a unique window into the mesmerizing sounds of each continent. Through his training on piano and guitar, Moha has developed a way to tell the incredible stories of the people and places he’s lived, and thus, he doesn’t classify himself as a singer, but more so a storyteller. His first single “A-Side” represents the first piece of Moha’s unfolding narrative.

“A-Side” is the first song being released off the album, but not the first piece of the story Moha will be telling. Moha is purposely revealing the songs out of order, adding even more mystery to the ethos of his storytell. This particular track represents the moment you’re first learning about someone, and wish they would tell you everything on their mind, because of the mixed signals you are receiving. While difficult to pigeonhole because of the track’s myriad of influences, “A-Side” is an anthemic pop and R&B mixture that features Moha’s raspy vocals a top of complex aural composition of drums, guitar, and horns.

If unfamiliar, with Moha before now, he recorded and released his first EP, “Things Won’t Always Be The Same,” while working with a few major labels in Paris, and subsequently toured Europe and NYC. Aside from his original work, Moha’s work with Jehro awarded him the prestigous Les Victories De La Musique award for songwriting in France.

Moha will be playing this single, along with the rest of the forthcoming album, for the first time at Rough Trade in Williamsburg on October 23.  Tickets available here.

LANKUM ‘Between The Earth And Sky’ out now + share video for ‘The Granite Gaze’

LANKUM

New album Between The Earth And Sky out now! Share video for ‘The Granite Gaze’

PRAISE FOR LANKUM

“urgent, desperate and detonating, full of lyrics and sounds smacking together like waves shattering stones in a storm” – The Guardian, ★★★★★

“The edgiest band to blow across the Irish sea in decades” – The Sun, ★★★★

Lankum have released their new album Between The Earth And Sky via Rough Trade / Remote Control. To celebrate they have shared a new video for ‘The Granite Gaze.’

The video for ‘The Granite Gaze‘ was made by cult Irish filmmaker Stephen McCollum (also responsible for the hilarious Award winning ‘Pullin’ The Devil By The Tail’ animated short film series).  Stephen has described the video as: “A metaphysical allegory exploring mankind’s capacity for ignorance and destruction of innocence in the face of celestial mystery, expressed in plasticine.”

Lankum are one of the most talked about bands to come out of Ireland in decades. They are a Dublin four-piece who combine distinctive four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, accordion, fiddle and guitar. Their repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties and street-songs, classic ballads from the Traveller tradition, traditional Irish and American dance tunes, and their own original material.

The band comprises of brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch along with Cormac MacDiarmada and Radie Peat. When not on tour Ian lectures in Irish Folklore and musical traditions in University College Dublin, while Cormac and Radie grew up as champion traditional players, on the fiddle and concertina, respectively. Yet Lankum are not purely trad themselves, in the same way The Pogues were more urban music. Rough-hewn and raw, they’re the edgiest thing in Dublin right now.

Having spent the last number of years performing as ‘Lynched’ a play on Ian and Daragh’s family name Lynch, the band decided that they would no longer continue with the name due to the unavoidable implications that it has in regards to acts of racist violence. Their new name comes from the ballad ‘False Lankum’, as sung by the Irish Traveller John Reilly Jr.

The band was originally formed by brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch in the early 2000’s, and has since progressed through a number of incarnations, culminating in the four-piece group playing today. The release of their album ‘Cold Old Fire’ and a subsequent appearance on the BBC television programme,‘Later… with Jools Holland’ cemented their reputation as a band that successfully crosses genres.Lankum are busy breathing new life into old music.

Although an acoustic group whose repertoire is fundamentally based on traditional song, influenced by legends such as Frank Harte, Planxty, The Dubliners and the Watersons, subtle traces of the group’s collective influences can be detected, ranging from American old-timey music to krautrock and drone.

Jim James announces ‘Tribute To 2’; Listen to his cover of The Beach Boys now

JIM JAMES ANNOUNCES TRIBUTE TO 2

Features covers of Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and more

Listen to his cover of The Beach Boys’ “I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times”

After releasing the politically charged solo album Eternally Even in 2016, My Morning Jacketfront man Jim James returns with Tribute To 2, a collection of cover songs that reverberate with fresh meaning. Blurring the boundaries of time and genre, James interprets songs made famous by a wide variety of artists – ranging from early 20th century standards by Ray Noble and Al Bowlly (“Midnight, the Stars and You”, “Love is the Sweetest Thing”) and 1960’s songs by Willie Nelson and Sonny & Cher to Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s 1970 breakthrough hit “Lucky Man” and 1990’s releases by Abbey Lincoln and Diane Izzo. Tribute To 2 is out Friday, December 8 on ATO Records via [PIAS].

Today, James shared his version of “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times”, which opens the album. Written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher, “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times” first appeared on Pet Sounds, the landmark 1966 Beach Boys album.

“‘I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times’ is a song that has spoken to me very deeply from the first time I heard it,” says Jim James. “So often, many of us just feel like we don’t fit in, like somehow we were dropped into the wrong life at the wrong time. This song has such a beautiful way of resonating with that energy and relating to the pain of life on earth, but also offering hope and comfort in the beautiful sounds of togetherness.”

James has spent the better part of almost two decades as the lead singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of My Morning Jacket.  Hailed by The New York Times as “the new kings of expand-your-mind, religious-experience rock,” the band has released seven studio albums with the last three – 2008’s Evil Urges, 2011’s Circuital and 2015’s The Waterfall – each receiving GRAMMY nominations for Best Alternative Album.

Polaris Premiere New Video ‘Lucid’ via Rocksound. ‘The Mortal Coil’ Out This Week.

by the partae October 31, 2017
written by the partae

POLARIS

ROCKSOUND PREMIERE VIDEO FOR LUCID THE MORTAL COIL OUT NOVEMBER 3 VIA RESIST RECORDS TRIPLE J FEATURE ALBUM ALL THIS WEEK!

“Three years in the making, the South Sydney five-piece come out roaring on their debut album, The Mortal Coil.” – triple j, Feature Album

The upper echelon of our heavy music hierarchy needs to make a little room as South-Sydney five-piece,Polaris release their highly anticipated debut album, The Mortal Coil this Friday, 3rd November via Resist Records. The Mortal Coil is triple j’s feature album all this week.

“Huge riffs? Check. Ambient textures? Check. Earth shattering breakdowns? You bet. Lucid has them all.” says Rocksound as they premiere the video for Lucid.

“Lucid came to us fairly late in the writing period. That big riff that drops in the middle of the song was actually written for a different song that Ryan was working on which didn’t make it to the album, but we loved the riff so we pulled it out and constructed a new song around it that was totally different to the original – really aggressive and full of this dark adrenaline, and straight away it became the album opener!”says vocalist, Jamie Hails

While drummer Daniel Furnari adds, “Lucid is a song about realising you’ve backed yourself into a mental corner that you have to work your way out of. I think by the end of the writing period we had all at one stage or another in our own time reached a bit of a breaking point where we became pretty drained and disillusioned with the creative process, which is somewhat inevitable when you’re working consistently on something for a long period of time and putting pressure on yourself to make things that you like. A few of us were getting kind of lost in the whole thing and beginning to lose a lot of faith in ourselves, and this song is about trying to process and understand that negative mindset.”

Watch the video for Lucid here:

The Mortal Coil was recorded in Polaris’ self-made studio in Mollymook, NSW, where they shipped American tandem, Carson Slovak and Grant MacFarland of Atrium Audio to oversee the recording. No strangers to success themselves, the hotly-tipped duo most recently produced, engineered and mixed August Burns Red’s Grammy-nominated album, Found In Far Away Places.

Guitarist Rick Schneider talks about the recording of The Mortal Coil, “Recording The Mortal Coil was unlike any studio experience we’d had before, both in location and environment. A few hours south of Sydney we rented a holiday house, not knowing how well it would suit our needs. We managed to set up two workstations and quickly found ourselves in a focused, yet highly relaxed work environment. While stress would inevitably make its way into the process, the end result is something we are all very proud of, and I’ll personally always look back on that month fondly.”

The critics have already been raving about The Mortal Coil:

“Polaris aren’t just holding a light to the bands that now define the Australian metalcore scene; they’ve grabbed the torch off them, ready to lead a new generation fist first into the moshpit.” – Stack Magazine

“Polaris doesn’t hold back anything on this, their debut album This Mortal Coil, showing the world what the Australian metalcore scene is capable of.” – Heavy Magazine

“The Mortal Coil is a strong, cohesive and confident offering; an album that’s destined to propel Polaris well ahead of their local contemporaries and land them on equal footing with the genre’s torchbearers.” – Hysteria Magazine

“Simply put, if you loved what ‘The Guilt & The Grief’ offered up back in 2016, then you’ll love this new record front to back. It’s a sonically tighter, better written, better produced, lyrical deeper, and heavier-hitting release on all accounts.” – Kill Your Stereo

Three years of tireless touring, boundary pushing writing and independent recording saw Polaris groom an army of supporters that’s already the envy of many in the heavy music realm, all of which culminated in the unveiling of the Guilt & The Grief in January of 2016. Whereas most self-released EPs register as a mere blip on the radar, Polaris’ sophomore disc landed at #34 on the nation’s ARIA chart, as well as a head-turning #2 finish on the AIR polls!

They have shared the stage with fellow prog-metal enthusiasts Periphery and Northlane, Hellions, Parkway Drive and joined Byron Bay eco-warriors In Hearts Wake on their massive Ark tour around the country with While She Sleeps and Japanese favourites, Crossfaith.

The quintet have just completed their national headline tour which saw them shred across the country ahead of the release of The Mortal Coil selling out shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Their first European tour kicks off this week on the Never Say Die! tour performing alongside Emmure, Deez Nuts, Chelsea Grin, Sworn In, Kublai Khan and Lorna Shore.

As well as their appearance at the Unify Festival in January 2018, Polaris will be sharing the stage supporting Byron Bay heavy weights, Parkway Drive on their ‘A Decade Of Horizons’ tour nationally.

Full Australian tour dates of Ryan Elliott…

by the partae October 31, 2017
written by the partae

Ryan Elliott

Tour Dates

Friday 1st December: Brown Alley, Melbourne
Saturday 2nd December: The Grand Poobah, Hobart
Sunday 3rd December: Subsonic Festival, Sydney

There is no denying that right now Ryan Elliott is smoking hot techno property. Last year we were treated to the Detroit-born, Berlin-based dance enthusiast at one of Melbourne’s highly praised Piknic Electronik’s and then again at Dimensions Festival in Sydney. This year Ryan will play smalltown in Melbourne, The Grand Poobah in Hobart and Subsionic festival in Sydney.

Ryan Elliott’s touring schedule doesn’t look too dissimilar to some of the leading DJs on the globe: he’s playing seventeen shows across September and October at a number of the world’s leading venues that include Fabric, Berghain, DGTL ADE, Sub Club and many more. Known to many as a ‘DJs DJ’ and a ‘true apprentice of a pure art form’, you can always expect a spectacle when Ryan Elliott is selecting the music for your day and/or night

Listen to Ryan Elliott at DGTL São Paulo

“Most of all, what comes from the speakers, it has to be the right track at the right moment and it has to be played in the right way.” Nobody knows this better than Detroit’s Ryan Elliott, his reputation as DJ, remixer and member Of the Spectral Sound A & R team has steadily grown behind the records for more than ten years, and has also been described as a ‘DJ’s DJ’ and a ‘true apprentice of a pure art form’. You do not get that kind of reputation, and Ellliott has earned it in every respect.

Influenced by the labels of his home town (Axis, Purpose Maker, M Plant and UR) and other international names such as Perlon, Playhouse and Kompakt, Ryan strongly refers to the application and function of the kick drum.

After Residencies in Ann Arbor’s Goodnight Gracies and Detroits Shelter, Elliott began to play international clubfloors. From New York’s Guggenheim Museum to Barcelona’s sonar, Ryan always tailors his sets to the exact requirements, not least with the help of his huge plate collection. In 2009, he moved to Berlin to devote himself more intensively to DJing, his productions and the management of the Spectral Sound Roster. “At first glance, Berlin and Detroit look different, but there is the same feeling, not only in terms of music, both cities have their edges and an honest heart,” says Ryan.

He has remained faithful to his style, bass-driven techno, reduced to the essence and conscientiously tuned to bring the audience to their senses. Now is the right time, here are the right tracks and Ryan Elliott is right where he should be.
