MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR Playing UOW Unibar, February 4
Atlanta based indie rock band, Manchester Orchestra make their anticipated return in support of their brand new album ‘A Black Mile To The Surface’. The album is the band’s fifth, following on from the release of 2014’s “Cope”.
A Black Mile to the Surface is a bold record of vision and purpose, inspired by and dwelling in a sensory and imaginative experience. It’s a reinvention of sorts, both musically and personally-a sort of cosmic worldview shift.
Manchester Orchestra had always prided themselves on their approach. The band, led by singer/lyricist Andy Hull with Robert McDowell (who is also Hull’s brother-in-law and lifelong friend), had spent their career challenging each other to build a poignant, exhilarating narrative with each new album and EP. The band had worked relentlessly to cultivate a passionate fan base the old-fashioned way: releasing music, making music videos, and touring.
Catch the bombastic, cinematic and incandescent indie rockers live in February – expect most of the classics we all know and love as well as the new Manchester sound we’ve been searching for.
“Delicate harmonies lightly contrasting the darkness of the instrumentation. If Fleet Foxes had an angry sibling, this is what they would sound like.” – Hysteria
“Complex musicality, emotional lyricism and an altogether sprawling take on indie rock that’s as tasteful as it is affecting.” – Double J

SPIRAL STAIRS ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES Playing Rad Bar, December 8
US indie lynchpin Spiral Stairs (Scott Kannberg of Pavement) returns to Australia for a string of intimate shows this December in support of new album Doris And The Daggers. This second solo album is a diverse and upbeat affair, the lyrics touching upon both the happiest and saddest aspects of the human condition, and even features guest spots from luminaries such as Matt Berninger (The National) and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene).
Doris And The Daggers is an album which showcases a whole new side to indie rock legend Scott Kannberg. It drips with a newfound sophistication withoutever becoming staid, the songs and arrangements well-crafted and incorporating everything from ’70s horns to ’80s synths and of course flourishes of the ’90s indie with which Spiral Stairsis so synonymous. It’s a diverse batch too, veering from the Roxy Music meets Wire slink of lead single Dance (Cry Wolf) through The Fall- esque clatter of Dundee Manto the Talking Heads-inspired faux-funk of No Comparison with consummate ease.
As strong a collection of songs to carry Spiral Stairs’ name since the halcyondays of Pavement,Doris And The Daggers showcases an artist growing both older and away from his roots gracefully, and reflects a new more mature set of influences accrued across the journey of a life well-lived.
