What is your name and role within Work Drugs?

Ben Louisiana , songwriter, keyboards, vocals. My role is creative director.

You’ve just put out a new record called Flaunt The Imperfection  When and where did you record?

This was recorded in several places over a period of 6 months, including florida, southern california, spain, and philadelphia.

What influenced the sound?

We are heavily influenced by records made from 79 to 84 – the height of the most decadent period of the recording industry.

What equipment did you use?

Juno 6 / Cs – 80 / polysix / fender j bass, neumann 87 – and the truth – most everything is dubbed onto tape then bounced to pro tools for editing.

Did you release via a label?

The latest release was done with Punchdrunk Records a subsidiary of Bobby Cahn Music.

How has the album been received by fans?

Some like the record, some think it’s too polished, you cant please everybody so always a good bet to please yourself.

Did you collaborate with anybody?

no, work drugs is a in house affair, though several talented musicians lent their musical prowess to bring the tunes to life.  nero catalano on guitar and bass, tim speece on guitar, and maxfield gast on sax.

Favorite track from the album and why?

tradewinds, as it was the first song that was completed and laid the foundation for the type of record that we wanted to make.  Somewhere between the pretenders and michael mcdonald.

How did you get into music?

From dubbed cassettes on my father’s boat, tom would say his parents record collection.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Kommode is brilliant.  Also way into benny sings currently.

Top 3 icons?

Bill Murray, Bruce Springsteen, and Brian Dawkins.

Your headlining a Philadelphia Music Festival on september 22nd, 2017. What can we expect from this show?

We are hoping to make it a party, we will have some special guests sitting in for the set to hopefully put it over the top.  we play upbeat “good time party band music” and we are gonna save the power ballads for the record.

How do you prepare for each show?

rehearsing, practice, and more rehearsing.

How did the headline position come about?

they asked us, and we said that would be cool, the philly music scene is somewhat nomadic, and follows certain trends, but as we have been doing it for a while now, its good to be included in the fabric.

Favorite food and place to hangout?

small square, stogie joes, fav current hang is bok bar.
