What is your name and role within Tryer?

Jussi Kahola, I sing and play guitar.

How did you start?

We started as an idea to play melodic and fast hardcore and we have pretty much stuck with that our whole existence.

Where are you based?

Tampere, Finland.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

I mainly compose everything at home and bring stuff to our rehearsals so they can be demolished and abused the way that it sounds even more like us. It’s a variation of waking up during the night when an idea pops to my head or just grabbing my guitar while I try to get some basic things done, which is nearly impossible as the guitar seems to be always on the way.

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on our new album and I have to admit I’m already pretty excited. It sounds so good in my head that I think it will be a blast to play live and listen to.

What is your gear setup?

I use Mesa Boogie Mark III and Ibanez s classic. I also have bunch of pedals of course and I use them mainly to add some small things to the songs. Mark III has this perfect trashy punk sound that I like a lot, it’s something that’s going to stick with me my whole life.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

Live, I like to hang out with my potbelly-pig, I like any kind of sports just to keep my head straight. I own pinball-arcade and go to pinball tournaments too. Love games and mind games too. As a personal level, don’t want to underline about things that go into music as I want people to hear themselves in the music same way I want to hear myself in the music I listen to. Truth is usually boring, it’s the music that makes it interesting.

How would you describe your music genre?

Punk, hardcore, with a heavy metal twist, no bullshit.

Do you know any music theory?

I know some, but not hanging onto it or really use it anyway. No use for theory in life or music, just do it.

What are your plans for the future?

To record and play as much as possible, enjoy doing it. We are planning to tour Europe and America next year, just can’t wait. Although we have contacts, any help is appreciated.

How did you get into music?

Through personal tragedy and anxiety as do so many people. Creative ones tend to be more easily drawn to this “satanic ritual”, but I’m not complaining. It has been awesome and it’s not like I know about anything else or even want to know.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Hour of the Wolf, I’m so in love with them that I can’t stop. Cheers to Addison!

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Can’t say top 5, but to name few bands that have struck me like lighting includes PG.99, Jesus Lizard, Endstand, Have Heart, Abduktio, Nofx, Sur-rur, Sonic Youth, Ghost World, Feelies, Fugazi, Circle Takes to Square just to name few.

When are you playing next?

During fall we are doing just two shows in Tampere and Helsinki as we are training for the new album and with our new amazing bass player. After that there will be a little break from doing shows as we concentrate on the new record. So if you wanna see us in the near future, it’s pretty much last chance for a while.
