ACID TONGUE PREMIERE NEW SONG “HUMPTY DUMPTY” DEBUT FULL-LENGTH BABIES TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 13 ON FREAKOUT RECORDS
Acid Tongue have released the second single from their forthcoming full-length, Babies, due October 13 on Freakout Records. NYLON premiered “Humpty Dumpty” saying “The song vibrates with a DIY punk ethos many artists shy away from these days, making Acid Tongue’s sound all the more thrilling. It’s nostalgic and modern at the same time—something we all strive for in any romantic relationship, that push and pull with dreams and reality.”
Guy Keltner told NYLON of the song’s inspiration: “Sometimes love is a rock, and sometimes love is an egg. I think most couples have this vision of growing old side-by-side and being all things to one another… The truth is, we’re all Tinder-loving, wine-gurgling, lonesome, depressed animals chasing what flees. We buy the first car that fits us, run the thing into the ground, and sell it off to the nearest teenager with a learner’s permit. Oh, to be young and in love!”
Acid Tongue has been gearing up for record release with a slew of shows in New York City, infatuating crowds with delightfully fuzzed up indie rock, quivering onstage energy and gritty quirk. Following aBrooklyn show on September 19 at The Gateway, the band will take off to tour Europe. They’ll return in November for festival plays including Off Beat in Reno and the 5th Annual Freakout! Festival in Seattle. Tour dates are listed below, more to be announced.
“catchy, laidback ode to devotion that reminds us to hang on to the ones who’ll stand by us no matter what.” – Paste
“…the band demonstrate both instrumental prowess and respect for their musical heritage as the sons of psychedelic forebears.” – All Things Go
“…find the sweet spot between psych-rock and garage, and ride that wave as far as they can take it”
“Sweltering and hazy-as-hell, Acid Tongue’s scorched indie-pop sounds plucked straight from a desert’s watering hole.” – DIY Mag
“Woozy but never falling down, ‘Beautiful Disaster’ sounds like an escape but is eager to stick around. Luckily the hypnotic hooks (which would make The Cribs proud) aren’t going to be leaving your head anytime soon.” – DORK
Acid Tongue is an American-bred garage band heavily influenced by AM-radio soul, folk and psychedelic rock. The band is composed of Guy Keltner & Ian Cunningham – perverted in their youth by adolescent exposure to mind-altering substances and strange, spiritually-driven parenting techniques.
After years of extensive traveling throughout the United States, as well as some experimental therapy in a Mexican yurt, the boys have united to produce their take on the music of their parents’ generation. Incorporating imagery of the afterlife, dream-states and drifter-culture, Acid Tongue seeks to enlighten listeners to their swingin’, contemplative lifestyle.
Recorded in Seattle and Portland during the tumultuous 2016 election, Acid Tongue’s debut LP, aptly named Babies, is a soulful, stoney, heartfelt approach to modern psychedelia. Engineered and produced by Battleme’s Matt Drenik (Charlie Hilton, Battleme), the album provides a glimpse of blue-collar American soul warped by a crumbling American democracy and a rose-colored look back at 90s pop culture.
Deeply influenced by Southern R&B, Motown, folk and doo-wop, frontman Guy Keltner’s current incarnation as Acid Tongue is an ode to a life spent on the road and a head stuck in the clouds. Equal parts Lou Reed, The Growlers, Brian Wilson and Mac DeMarco, the sound is a dark reflection on childhood romance, confusion, Satanism and suicidal thoughts familiar to anyone suffering from the American condition.
